Who this is for: All Barti users who file vision insurance claims.
Important: The Submit button in Barti routes claims to TriZetto only. Clicking Submit for a vision claim will not send it to VSP, iMed, or any other vision portal — it will simply fail or route incorrectly. Always use Finalize for vision claims.
Steps
Step 1 — Create and review the claim
Create the claim from the patient's invoice as normal. Review all fields and click Save and Hold. See How do I create an insurance claim in Barti? for full steps.
Step 2 — Finalize the claim in Barti
With the claim in Hold status, click Finalize. The claim status changes to Finalized in Barti.
Step 3 — File through the vision portal
Log into the appropriate portal and file the claim there:

iMed / EyeMed | iMed provider portal |
Spectera / Davis Vision / Superior Vision | Their respective portals or TriZetto (either is acceptable for these plans) |
Step 4 — Update the claim status in Barti manually
Because vision claims are filed outside of Barti, statuses do not update automatically. After filing:
Return to Insurance → Claims in Barti.
Open the finalized claim.
Use the Status dropdown at the top of the claim to update it to the correct state (e.g., Pending, Paid, Rejected).
Update the status again each time the portal provides a new update.
Tip: Build a habit of updating vision claim statuses at the same time you post the vision payment. This keeps your claims report accurate and prevents old vision claims from inflating your open AR.
Step 5 — Download a paper claim (if needed)
For payers with no payer ID who require a paper CMS-1500:
After clicking Finalize, open the three-dot menu on the claim.
Select Download Claim with Background.
Print the filled CMS-1500 form and mail it to the payer.
What you'll see when it works
The claim shows Finalized status in Barti after you click Finalize. Once you manually update the status after filing through the portal, it reflects the current state (Pending, Paid, etc.) in your claims report.
Troubleshooting
I accidentally clicked Submit instead of Finalize on a vision claim. What do I do?
Clicking Submit routes the claim to TriZetto, which cannot forward it to a vision portal. The claim will likely show an error or rejection from TriZetto. Contact rcm@barti.com for guidance on correcting the submission.
My vision claims are inflating my open AR report.
This is usually because claim statuses haven't been manually updated after filing. Go to Insurance → Claims, filter by Finalized status, and update each vision claim to reflect its current state in the portal.
VSP isn't appearing in the payer list when creating the claim.
VSP does not have a payer ID. Type "VSP" directly in the payer field — it will still post correctly to the invoices.
