The general restore settings of Kickstart explained

General restore settings

Use these settings cautiously – restoring users may lead to confusion or privacy issues if backup files are shared across contexts.

These global settings control how courses are restored during the import process when using them as templates in Kickstart. You find them by going to Site administration > Plugins > Course formats > Kickstart format > General settings.

These settings are based on Moodle’s standard restore options. Choosing Use default restore settings will apply the values configured in Site administration > Courses > Backups > General restore defaults. Selecting Yes or No overrides these default values.

The available settings:

  • Include users

Determines whether users from the backup (e.g., students or teachers) are restored into the new course. This also includes user-generated content.

  • Keep current roles and enrolments

Specifies whether to retain existing roles and enrollment methods.

  • Keep current groups and groupings

Specifies whether to retain existing groups and groupings in the destination course during the import.
