Designer in a nutshell

Updated over a week ago

Designer is a Moodle course format that provides extended options for structuring and styling courses. It allows teachers to control how sections and activities are displayed, offering different layouts and design elements beyond the standard Moodle format.

With Designer, sections and activities can be presented in different styles such as cards, lists, links or circles. Layouts can be mixed within the same course, giving flexibility for both simple and complex course designs.

Additional styling options include background colors, images and masks for sections and activities. Activities can display a different image once completed, which can be used to highlight progress.

Designer also provides different course types. For example, Flow presents sections in a stack of tiles for compact courses, while Kanban shows sections as columns on a board.

Beyond design, Designer offers several structural features:

  • A section overview to provide a table of contents for the course.

  • A course header that can show progress, course information, and teacher information.

  • Hero activities that are accessible from the secondary navigation.

  • Course prerequisites that link courses together as part of a programe.

Designer is available in two versions: Basic and Pro.
