Timeline layout in Dash

About the Timeline layout, its settings, and its effect on Fields preferences (Plus only)

About

The Timeline layout presents data as a chronological or sequential stream of events. This layout is ideal for displaying course progress, activity logs, upcoming deadlines, or historical milestones in a clear, vertical structure. By combining icons, headings, and badges, it creates a narrative flow that helps users track status and time-based information at a glance.

Available settings in Layout preferences

The Timeline layout utilizes the general layout settings to control how data is retrieved and ordered.

Available settings in Fields preferences

Selecting the Timeline layout provides a specific mapping system within the Fields preferences to build each point on the timeline:

  • Icon field – Choose a field to represent each entry with an icon or image (e.g., Course image).

  • Subheading field – A smaller text area above the main heading for categories or dates.

  • Subheading icon – Select a specific icon to appear next to the subheading text.

  • Badge color field – Select a data field that determines the color of the status badge.

  • Heading field – The primary title for each timeline entry.

  • Body fields (1 to 3) – Up to three distinct areas for additional data.

  • Image URL field – Define a field to serve as a linked image within the timeline entry.

Note: The specific fields available for selection are determined by the data source assigned to the block.
