Manage delivery methods for Pulse notifications

Configure user preferences to receive notifications from Pulse via email or web notifications

Admins and students can manage how notifications from Pulse are received by adjusting delivery settings. These settings control whether notifications are sent via email or displayed as web notifications within the Moodle interface. This affects notifications sent by the Pulse activity and notifications from Pulse automations.


How to configure delivery methods globally

Under Site administration > Messaging > Notification settings Admins can define the default behavior for Pulse notifications and determine if students are allowed to change these settings.

Under the Pulse section, you can configure the following for both Web and Email:

  • Enabled – Select to activate the delivery method by default.

  • Locked – Select if you want to prevent students from changing this setting in their personal preferences.


How to configure delivery methods on user basis

Admins can manage settings for specific individuals, or students can manage their own preferences if the settings are not locked by an admin.

To configure settings for a specific student or for yourself, navigate to: User profile > Preferences > Notification preferences > Pulse

From this menu, the following options can be toggled:

  • Web – Send notifications inside the Moodle interface.

  • Email – Send notifications to the student's external email address.


Note: If both email and web notifications are disabled, reports will still show notifications as sent when they are triggered.
