Assigning skills

How to allocate skill points or force levels through course and activity completion

About

Allocating points or specific levels for a skill can be controlled by course completion or by activity completion.

Note: A skill is only available if it is enabled globally. Category-restricted skills cannot be accessed outside of their specific category.

Course completion settings

To configure how a skill is awarded when a student completes a course, navigate to the secondary course navigation menu and select More > Manage Skills. This tab displays a table where administrators or teachers can toggle the availability of specific skills for the course and edit their distribution logic.

Clicking the edit action opens a configuration modal with the following settings:

  • Status – Enable to activate the skill for the course.

  • Upon course completion – Define what happens when a student satisfies the course completion criteria:

    • Nothing – No point adjustment or level modification takes place.

    • Points – Award a specific number of points toward the skill.

    • Set level – Establish a minimum skill level that the student reaches, ensuring users who already hold an equal or higher level do not lose their progress.

    • Force level – Assign a mandatory level regardless of the student's current status, which can result in a level downgrade if their previous standing was higher.

Activity completion settings (Pro only)

To reward students for completing individual activities, navigate to the secondary navigation menu of a specific activity and select More > Manage Skills. Only skills that have already been enabled at the course level will appear in this view.

Clicking the edit action opens a configuration modal with the following settings:

  • Upon activity completion – Define what happens when a student satisfies the activity completion criteria:

    • Nothing – No point adjustment or level modification takes place.

    • Points – Award a specific number of points toward the skill.

    • Points by grade – Award points dynamically based on the specific grade numerical value received for the activity.

    • Set level – Establish a minimum skill level that the student reaches, ensuring users who already hold an equal or higher level do not lose their progress.

    • Force level – Assign a mandatory level regardless of the student's current status, which can result in a level downgrade if their previous standing was higher.
