How to configure general parameters and level structures when adding or modifying skills

About

The skill configuration settings allow administrators to define a skill's properties, restrict its availability to specific course categories, and establish progression milestones. These settings are managed directly within the skill configuration form, which can be accessed from the main skills dashboard.

General settings

The general section defines the primary identification details, visibility behavior, and structural categorization for the skill:

  • Skill name – The formal title of the skill as it appears to students and teachers across the site.

  • Key – A short code or identifier primarily used for generating reports, tracking metrics, or mapping to organizational compliance models.

  • Description – Administrative notes detailing the purpose or criteria of the skill, visible only to managers and administrators.

  • Status – Enable the skill to make it available according to configured restriction.

  • Learning time – The estimated time investment required to master the skill.

  • Skill color – The designated color code used to identify the skill within dashboard widgets.

  • Available in course categories – A selector that limits where the skill can be assigned, ensuring teachers can only select it if their course resides within the specified categories.

Note: Learning time is currently not displayed to users and reserved for reporting and upcoming dashboard widgets.

Levels settings

The levels section establishes how a student's progress is graded or visually measured as they accumulate points. Each skill requires a mandatory base level (Level 0). When the number of levels is set above 0, the form dynamically generates identical configuration sections for each consecutive level (Level #1, Level #2, etc.).

The following settings can be configured for each level:

  • Number of levels – A dropdown menu that controls how many levels are enabled for the skill.

  • Level name – The label given to the level.

  • Level point – The target score threshold required to attain the level.

  • Level color – The visual color code assigned to the level displayed in the skills widgets.

  • Level image – The icon file uploaded to visually represent the level in the skills widgets.
