How to Safely Remove Glass Camera Lens Protectors

Updated over 2 weeks ago

Some of our camera lens protectors (including iPhone 17 lens protectors) are made from tempered glass. While this offers excellent protection, glass can crack or shatter if removed incorrectly.

Important Safety Notice

Camera lens protectors are made of glass and can crack when force is applied. Follow the steps below carefully to avoid injury.

Before you begin

  • Wash and dry your hands

  • Work on a flat surface

  • Keep your face and eyes away from the phone during removal

Step 1: Cover the lens protector

Apply a layer of adhesive tape (clear tape or masking tape) directly over the lens protector. This holds the glass together if it cracks and prevents shards from scattering.

Step 2: Lift from the edge

Using your fingernail or a thin plastic tool (like a plastic card), gently lift one corner or edge. Do not press down on the centre of the glass.

Step 3: Peel slowly

Once an edge lifts, slowly peel the protector away in one direction. Keep the tape in place during removal.

Step 4: Dispose carefully

Wrap the removed lens protector (still taped) in paper or tissue before disposing of it safely.

What not to do

  • Do not bend or snap the glass

  • Do not apply force to the centre

  • Do not use metal tools or sharp objects

  • Do not remove near your face or eyes

If the glass cracks during removal

Stop immediately. Keep the tape in place. Carefully remove remaining pieces while covered and dispose of all glass safely. If you're uncomfortable, ask someone to help.

If you have any concerns about your lens protector, get in touch and we'll help.
