Tutors are the users who deliver the actual teaching in Bobbin. Each Tutor runs Lessons, is linked to one or more Courses, and has Progress Reports generated about their teaching as those Lessons complete.
Your Tutors are managed in TutorCruncher and synced into Bobbin automatically, not added here. This article covers how they appear in Bobbin and what you can see and do on a Tutor's page.
The Tutors page
Open Tutors from the Directory section of the sidebar to see everyone teaching in your organization. The list shows each Tutor's name, email address and the number of Lessons they have completed, and you can use the search box at the top to find a Tutor quickly. Internal Bobbin accounts don't appear in the list, so what you see is only your own people.
Click any Tutor to open their page. A Tutor's page has two tabs — Summary and Lessons.
The Summary tab brings together:
Reports — the Tutor's most recent monthly, weekly and recent Progress Reports. These are created automatically as Lessons complete, and you can also use Generate report to produce one on demand.
Linked courses — the Courses the Tutor teaches, with their status.
Contact — the Tutor's email address.
Lesson activity — how many Lessons the Tutor has completed and their total number of Lessons.
The Lessons tab lists every Lesson assigned to the Tutor. You can filter by All, Upcoming or Past, and each row shows the Lesson, its date and time, the Students attending and its status (for example Planned or Complete).
How your Tutors get into Bobbin
TutorCruncher is the source of truth for your Tutors. They're synced into Bobbin automatically — you don't add them by hand, and there's no Add tutor button on the Tutors page.
A few things follow from this:
Tutors are read-only in Bobbin. A Tutor's name, email and timezone are managed in TutorCruncher. If you need to change them, update the Tutor in TutorCruncher and the change syncs across — you won't see Edit or Remove on their Bobbin page.
Tutors appear as they're needed. A Tutor is synced into Bobbin when they're set up in TutorCruncher, and whenever they're assigned to teaching that flows through to Bobbin as a Course or Lesson.
What a Tutor can do on a Course comes from TutorCruncher. Each Tutor's permissions on the Courses they teach are taken from their permissions in TutorCruncher (see What a Tutor can do on a Course below).
Signing in. Tutors reach Bobbin using Login with TutorCruncher — they don't need a separate Bobbin password.
To remove a Tutor, remove or deactivate them in TutorCruncher. Their teaching history stays intact in Bobbin so existing Lessons and Reports aren't affected.
What a Tutor can do on a Course
A Tutor's access is set per Course, controlling how much they can do with the Lessons on it. There are four levels:
Full access — manage the Course and its Lessons, including marking Lessons complete.
Add & edit — create and edit Lessons, but not mark them complete.
Edit only — edit Lesson and Course details without adding, removing or completing Lessons.
Complete only — only mark Lessons as complete.
These permissions come from each Tutor's permissions in TutorCruncher, so you set and change them there rather than in Bobbin. Because the level applies per Course, the same Tutor can have different access on different Courses — if a Tutor says an action is missing on one Course but works on another, this is usually why.
Tutor sign-in and the mobile app
Tutors are the only users who can use the Bobbin mobile app, which is built around the day-to-day job of running Lessons and writing up notes. Tutors sign in — both on the web and in the app — with Login with TutorCruncher using their existing TutorCruncher credentials, so there's no separate Bobbin password to manage.
A Tutor only sees what's relevant to them — their own Lessons, Courses and Students — rather than your whole organization. On a Lesson page they can also see the join links for their own Students, so they can pass one on to a family who can't find their invitation.
The mobile app can send Tutors a daily push notification summarizing the Lessons they have that day. It's switched off until it's enabled for your organization.
Two-factor authentication
Anyone can turn on two-factor authentication for their own account from their profile settings, adding a code from an authenticator app on top of their password.
You can see whether a Tutor has it switched on from their page in Bobbin, and if someone loses access to their authenticator app an Administrator can reset it for them so they can set it up again.
Files and resources
Tutors can use your organization's shared files and folders as well as building a personal library of their own, and can attach shared files to the Courses they teach. Inside a live Lesson, the library panel gives them the shared files, the Course's files and their own library without leaving the whiteboard.
Every document and folder records who added it, so you can see at a glance what came from which Tutor.
Tutor performance feedback
Bobbin generates AI performance feedback about each Tutor's teaching. By default, Tutors don't see the AI feedback about their own teaching — it's visible to Administrators only. If you'd like your Tutors to see it, an Administrator can turn on Show tutor performance feedback to tutors under Workspace > Settings > Lessons.
Progress Reports written about a Tutor work the same way: a Tutor can ask for one to be generated about themselves, but only an Administrator can edit, refine or remove it, or write the notes on it.
