Accessibility statement

We believe every student deserves the opportunity to create, share, and learn in ways that work best for them. Our mission is to empower students of all ages and abilities to actively engage in the joy of learning. That’s why accessibility is at the heart of how we design Book Creator, from supporting assistive technologies to building features that promote flexibility and choice for all users.

Voluntary Product Accessibility Template (VPAT) v2.5

A VPAT (Voluntary Product Accessibility Template) is a document that explains how well our product meets recognized accessibility standards.

In June 2025, we updated our VPAT to reflect the latest accessibility guidelines. This version aligns with:

  • WCAG 2.2 (Web Content Accessibility Guidelines)

  • Section 508 (U.S. accessibility law)

  • EN 301 549 (European standard for ICT accessibility)

How we test for accessibility

At Book Creator, we take a proactive and user-informed approach to accessibility testing, ensuring that our platform is inclusive, usable, and aligned with accessibility standards.

Manual testing: real-world usability

We manually test every new feature and update with assistive technologies such as JAWS, NVDA, Narrator, and VoiceOver. This includes:

  • Verifying keyboard navigation and focus indicators

  • Ensuring screen reader compatibility and accurate spoken feedback

  • Testing intuitive navigation paths and clear labeling of all controls

  • Confirming accessible hover, active, and visited states

Automated tools: early detection

To support efficiency and compliance, we use:

  • Lighthouse for accessibility audits and improvement recommendations

  • WAVE for visual feedback on contrast, alt text, and structure

  • Biome (linting) and automated design system checks to catch issues early in development

Built-In accessibility by design

Book Creator follows the principles of Universal Design for Learning (UDL), offering students and teachers multiple ways to engage with, represent, and express their learning. We listen to real classroom experiences and continuously use feedback from educators and learners to inform our accessibility feature roadmap.

Our development process reinforces our commitment to accessibility and compliance, ensuring that Book Creator remains inclusive and aligned with evolving accessibility standards.
