Coming Soon - Inline text editing and custom options

We are making changes to the way all users add and format text. The changes will make the formatting of text more accessible for all users and provide teachers with options to remove distractions for their students.

Why are we making these changes?

We heard from our educators that for some students the formatting experience was too distracting, difficult to navigate and overwhelming. A mix of controls on the text editor and inspector menu caused confusion and inefficiency.

What is changing?

Formatting experience

All users will see a new text editing toolbar with inline formatting controls. This means that the options that were hidden on the inspector button menu are all available within one visible toolbar. This new layout will change the way you and your students format text on the pages of your books.

A user editing text that reads ' this is my book' the user changes the colour to red, increases the font size and centre aligns the text.

What is new?

Student text edit controls

You will have additional library settings to control the format toolbar options available to your students. This means you can still provide choice for your students with the benefit of removing overwhelm.

You know your students best and you can choose what options should be available for them. Not all students need the full suite of font options or advanced formatting. You can choose the toolbar that your students will see.

Student experience

By default the student experience is the same as the teacher experience. All formatting options are available from the inline toolbar menu.

If you have configured a custom toolbar for your library, when students are editing books within the library, they will see a simpler set of choices for formatting text.
