You can't see if your Book Creator app is up to date inside the app, you need to go to your iPad Settings, and then swipe down to find Book Creator in the list of apps you've installed.

Tap on it and you'll see the version you're using under Current Version under Book Creator Settings.

If you want to turn on automatic updates for your apps, go to Settings > iTunes & App Store and then toggle on App Updates under Automatic Downloads.
