A goal is the long-term result that a client works toward, for example "Lose 8 kg by June". A milestone is a smaller checkpoint on the way, for example "50 workouts done". You set both for one client at a time in the Dashboard.
Goals and milestones help you and the client agree on a clear target. The system tracks progress from the workouts and body metrics that the client logs. Many goals and milestones complete automatically when the client reaches the target.
The feature is part of the Coach package.
Structure
Each goal and each milestone belongs to one client. A milestone can link to one goal of that client, or to no goal. A goal can have many milestones. If you delete a goal, its milestones stay, but they lose the link.
Goal types
The goal type decides what the system measures and which units you can use.
Goal type | What the system measures | Units | Completes automatically |
Weight loss | The latest Weight metric since the start date | kg, lb | Yes |
Body fat | The latest Body fat metric since the start date | % | Yes |
Strength gain | The heaviest set on one chosen exercise since the start date | kg, lb | Yes |
Endurance improvement | The longest single workout since the start date | min | Yes |
Workout frequency | The start value plus the number of completed workouts since the start date | workouts | Yes |
Custom | Nothing | Any unit, or no unit | No, you close it yourself |
Goal status
A goal always has one of four statuses.
Active: the goal is open. Only an active goal completes automatically.
Achieved: the client reached the target, or you set it by hand.
Missed: the client did not reach the target. Only you can set this status.
Revised: you changed the plan. Only you can set this status.
The system does not set a goal to Missed when the target date passes. You must close old goals yourself.
Milestone types
A milestone has no status field. It is either reached, with a date, or not reached.
Milestone type | Reached when | Completes automatically |
Workout count | The client logged at least the target number of workouts, in total | Yes, if a target is set |
Weight lifted | Any set on the chosen exercise is at or above the target weight | Yes, if a target is set |
Days in a row | The client's longest run of consecutive training days reaches the target | Yes, if a target is set |
Body metric | The latest value of the chosen measurement (for example Waist) is at or below, or at or above, the target | Yes, if a target is set |
Strength goal | You mark it | No |
Custom | You mark it | No |
The body metric options are Weight, Body fat, Chest, Waist, Hips, Arms, Thighs and Height. "Days in a row" uses the best streak ever, not the current streak.
How to create a goal or a milestone
Use the client's coaching engagement to create, edit, delete and mark goals and milestones. A coaching engagement is the record of your coaching work with one client. The member profile can also add them, but it cannot edit them.
Open the right page
In the Dashboard sidebar, go to Coaching, then Engagements.
Open the engagement of the client.
Open the tab "Goals & milestones".
The tab shows only if your gym has the goals and the engagement has a client account. As an alternative, open the member profile and go to the progress tab. That tab shows only for clients with an active personal training membership.
Create a goal
In the Goals section, click "Add goal".
Select the Goal Type.
If the type is Strength gain, select the Exercise.
Type a Title. The client sees this name.
Optional: type a Description.
Type the Start Value and the Target Value.
Select the Unit. Some goal types set the unit for you.
Set the Start Date and the Target Date. The defaults are today and today plus 3 months.
Optional: type Notes.
Save the goal.
A new goal is always Active. For Strength gain, Endurance improvement and Workout frequency, the target value must be greater than the start value. For Weight loss and Body fat, set the target value lower than the start value.
If the start value and the target value are the same, the goal never completes automatically.
Create a milestone
In the Milestones section, click "Add milestone".
Type a Title, for example "50 workouts done". The client sees this name.
Select the Type.
If the type is Body metric, select the Metric and the direction ("At or below the target" or "At or above the target").
If the type is Weight lifted, select the Exercise.
If the type is Body metric or Weight lifted, select the Unit.
Type the Target value.
Optional: set a Target date.
Optional: type a Description.
Optional: select the Goal that the milestone belongs to.
Save the milestone.
If you leave the target empty, the system cannot mark the milestone. You must then mark it yourself. The Goal field shows only when the client already has goals, so create the goal first.
The body metric direction defaults to "At or below" for Weight, Body fat, Waist and Hips. It defaults to "At or above" for the other measurements. Change it if your client wants to gain weight, for example.
Ways to assign a goal or a milestone to a member
A goal or milestone gets to a member in one of three ways. All three put it on one client only.
Way | Who does it | Creates | Use it when |
Coaching engagement, tab "Goals & milestones" | You, for one client | Goals and milestones | You coach the client and want full control: create, edit, delete and mark as reached |
Member profile, Progress tab | You, for one client with personal training | Goals and milestones | You look at the client's progress and want to add a target quickly. You cannot edit here |
Onboarding form | The member, or staff for the member | Goals only | You want to capture the client's own goal when they join |
Goals from an onboarding form
An onboarding form is the questionnaire that a new member fills in. An owner or manager can add the extraction rule "Client goal" to a question in the form template.
When the member submits the form, the system creates a goal from the answer.
The new goal is Active and has the note "Captured from onboarding".
Open the goal after onboarding and check the value, target value and unit.
Link workouts to a goal
When you assign a workout to exactly one client, you can select a "Related goal". The goal then shows a count of linked workouts. This link is for information only and does not change the goal's progress.
What you cannot do
The system has no templates for goals or milestones. You cannot assign them to a group, to all members, or through a membership or a product. The member cannot create their own goals in the app. Repeat the steps for each client.
How goals and milestones are achieved
Goals complete the moment new data arrives. Milestones complete in a nightly check. Both use only logged workouts and body metrics.
| Goals | Milestones |
When the system checks | When the client or a coach logs a workout or a body metric, and when you save an Active goal | Every night at 02:30 UTC |
What counts | Body metrics and completed workouts since the goal start date | All workouts and body metrics the client ever logged |
Mark it by hand | Edit the goal and set Status to Achieved | Click "Mark as reached" on the milestone row |
Undo | Edit the goal and change the Status | Click "Mark as not reached" |
Who is told on automatic completion | Staff, if the gym turned on goal notifications | The member, by push and in-app message |
Who is told on manual completion | Staff, if the gym turned on goal notifications | Nobody |
Check-ins, class bookings and class attendance do not count toward any goal or milestone. The target date does not complete or close anything. On milestones, a passed target date only shows the label "Overdue".
Data the client must log
The system can only measure what someone logs. Make sure that the client, or you, records the right data.
Weight loss, Body fat and Body metric targets need body metric entries with a unit.
Strength gain and Weight lifted need logged sets on the chosen exercise.
Endurance improvement needs workouts with a duration.
Workout frequency, Workout count and Days in a row need logged workouts.
Progress you see
The engagement tab shows "{reached} of {total} reached" for milestones. On the Progress tab, the bar on a goal shows the share of its milestones that the client reached. If the goal has no milestones, the bar shows how much of the time between the start date and the target date has passed.
Goal notifications for staff
An owner turns these on in Gym settings, Members tab, Personal training section, with the switch "Notify coach when PT client achieves a goal". The owner also selects who gets them: the goal creator, the client's assigned PT coach (the default), or all chain owners and the goal creator.
Each coach selects their own channels under Account, Notifications, row "Client achieves a goal you set". The channels are In-app, Push and Email. All three are on by default.
Other things a new coach needs to know
What the member sees
The member app and the member website do not show goals or milestones yet. When a milestone completes automatically, the member gets a push message "Milestone reached" with the milestone title. The member gets no message when a goal completes. Tell your client about their goals and progress in your sessions.
Edit, close and delete
Edit a goal or a milestone in the coaching engagement only. Click the row or the edit icon.
Close a goal that the client did not reach: set Status to Missed. If you change the plan, set Status to Revised and create a new goal.
Delete a goal: the milestones of that goal stay, but they lose the link to the goal.
Delete a milestone: you cannot undo this.
The system has no archive. Use Missed and Revised to close goals that are no longer open.
Who can use the feature
All staff roles can see and change the goals and milestones of all clients in the chain. The Coaching menu shows only for owners, box managers and personal trainers. There is no limit on the number of goals or milestones per client.

Tips
Give each client one main goal and three to five milestones that lead to it.
Use an automatic type when you can. Use Custom only for targets that the system cannot measure, for example "Run a 5 km race".
Always set a target value on automatic milestones. Without it, the system does not mark them.
Link each milestone to its goal. The progress bar on the goal then shows real progress.
Look at the client's open goals once a month. Close goals that passed their target date.
After a client completes onboarding, open the goals that the form created and check values.
