Creating or copying Group Sets in Bound is a quick and easy process. Group Sets are a powerful Bound feature that allow Athletic Associations to create groupings of schools by things like class, conference, region, district, etc.
Group Sets are required to calculate and report in-season and post-season information, such as statewide standings, leaderboards, and more.
Naming Conventions
You can set up Group Sets and Groups in current or future school years. Make sure you have the appropriate school year selected before beginning.
Group Set names and Group names do different jobs. The Group Set is named for its type, and the Groups inside it carry the specific names your association uses.
Group Set name: match the Type you selected. A Group Set of type Region is named Region, and a Group Set of type Conference is named Conference.
Group name: the specific division, region, or conference, such as Division 1 or Cactus Region.
When Groups in different Group Sets share part of a name, add a designation so you can tell them apart. If Division 1 and Division 2 each contain a Cactus Region, name the Groups Cactus 1 and Cactus 2, where Cactus 1 belongs to Division 1 and Cactus 2 belongs to Division 2.
Note: Different states use different group types. Your association may work in divisions and regions, classes and conferences, or another combination.
Create a Group Set
In your dashboard, go to the Activities tab. Click on the activity.
In the Season sidebar, click Group Sets.
Click Manage Group Sets in the top right corner, then click Add Group Set from the drop down.
Select the Group Set Type (Class, Conference, District, Region, State, or Substate).
Give your Group Set a Name (the name of the class or conference, for example).
Click Save.
After clicking Save, you will land on the Edit Group Set page where you can proceed to adding Groups within your created Group Set(s).
Adding a Group to a Group Set
In the Group Set Parent field, only select if the group set you are creating is under another in hierarchy; for example Divisions are the parent of Regions. Otherwise ignore.
In the Edit Group Set window, you can add Groups easily.
Click the green + button in the Edit Group Set window. If you need two Groups in this Group Set, for example, click this button twice.
Note: Enter a Group Name for each Group after you have added as many as you need. Clicking the green + add group button will clear the name(s) you entered if you have not clicked Save.
Enter the Group Size for each Group. The first Group you add to a Group Set will be locked to "Remaining Teams" as the Group Size.
Click Save.
Click Manage Groups in the top right corner to proceed with Group set up.
Manage Groups
In the Groups window, each Group has four buttons, each taking you to a different Group Setting. You can also add a new Group at any time by clicking Manage Groups in the top right corner, then + Add Group from the drop down.
Edit: Allows you to edit Position, Group Name, Group Parent, as well as a Sync Lower Levels (Syncs lower levels to match Varsity teams) and Show to Public toggle.
|
Manage Teams: View by level (Varsity, Junior Varsity, etc.), and add teams to each Group within this Group Set.
|
Teams are added one Group at a time from that Group's Manage Teams screen.
In Activities -> Group Sets, find the Group Set you want to work in.
Click Manage Teams on the Group you are adding teams to.
If you are building a Group for a lower level team, select the level from the Varsity dropdown. Use the Program and Level Keys article if you are not sure which level represents which team.
Narrow the list of teams to the ones you need.
Filter by conference to show only the teams in that conference.
Or enter a school name in the Search field.
Select the teams to add to this Group.
Click Select All to add every team in the filtered list at once.
Or select each team you want individually, when only some of the filtered teams belong in this Group.
Click Save.
To remove a team from a Group, click the red - next to it. If the Group Set has a parent, the team list is filtered automatically to the schools linked to the parent Group.
Note: If a school's program/team is moving from one group to another, you first must remove it from its existing group and then add it to the new one. A school's program/team can only belong in one group in at a time.
Create Competition: Opens a new window, creating an associated Competition for the Activity Group Set. You can edit the Competition settings before publishing.
