What Are Shopify App Credits?

Shopify app credits are billing credits that reduce or cover the cost of your app subscription or usage charges.

If you have app credits, Shopify automatically applies them to your app charges before charging your payment method.

How Shopify app credits work

App credits act like a balance that Shopify uses to pay for app fees. Instead of removing an app charge from your Shopify bill or generating a new bill without the charge, Shopify applies an app credit to your account. This ensures that the original bill remains unchanged while the credit offsets the billed amount.

Example:

  • Your app subscription costs $15

  • You have $20 in app credits

Result:

  • Shopify uses $15 from your credits

  • Your payment method is not charged

  • Your remaining credits are $5

If your credits don’t cover the full amount, Shopify will charge the remaining balance.

Why you may receive app credits

App credits are issued by the app developer through Shopify. This may happen when:

  • You receive a refund

  • Support provides compensation for an issue

  • You’re given a courtesy credit

  • You receive a promotional credit

Once issued, the credits are added to your Shopify billing account.

Important things to know

  • Credits apply automatically — no action needed

  • Credits only apply to app charges

  • Credits cannot be withdrawn or transferred

  • Shopify manages and applies the credits

  • Some credits may expire- The original bill remains unchanged — Credits ensure you are not financially impacted by the charge while keeping the original invoice intact.

How to check your app credits

To view your available credits:

  1. Go to your Shopify Admin

  2. Click Settings

  3. Click Billing

  4. Look for the Credits section

Will I still be charged if I have credits?

No — not if your credits cover the full charge.

If your credits only cover part of the charge, Shopify will charge your payment method for the remaining amount.
