How to Add Guide Gratuity to a Booking

Add a client's tip to a booking using the Guide Gratuity add-on, then charge the client or send an updated invoice.

If a client wants to leave a tip, add it to the booking as a Guide Gratuity add-on. You can do this before or after the trip, as long as the booking is still open.

This is for tips a client pays. To add a tip or bonus to your guide's payout yourself, see Changing a Guide Payment Amount.

Before you start: You'll need a Guide Gratuity add-on set up. See How to Set Up a Guide Gratuity Add-On.

How to add guide gratuity to a booking

  1. Find the booking you want to add gratuity to:

    • From Bookings — click Bookings in the left sidebar, click the booking to open it, then click Edit (top right).

    • From the Trip calendar — click Trip calendar in the left sidebar, click the trip, click Manage booking in the pop-up, then click Edit (top right).

  2. In the itinerary builder, click + Add Add-On, then select Guide Gratuity.

  3. Enter the tip amount:

    • Flat amount (e.g. $200 total): enter $200 and set quantity to 1.

    • Per guide or per boat (e.g. $150 per boat for 3 boats): enter $450 total, or enter $150 and set quantity to 3.

  4. Click Save, check the price change in the Review changes before saving window, then click Confirm and Save.

  5. Collect the tip: charge a saved payment method (if available), collect payment manually in person or over the phone, or send an updated invoice for online payment.

Good to know

  • Brindlechute doesn't split gratuity among guides automatically. Handle that during your guide payout process. See Changing a Guide Payment Amount.

  • Gratuity is charged like any other add-on: the client booking fee and the card processing fee both apply to the tip amount, based on your fee settings. See How to set your fees: pass-through & default client fees.

  • Leave the add-on's Linked to partner dropdown on No partner so the tip isn't counted toward a partner's payout.
