How to Handle a Partial Cancellation (Dropping a Day or Service)

Adjust bookings when a client drops part of a trip—like removing a day, boat, or full experience—without canceling the entire booking.

When to Use

  • One day of a multi-day booking is canceled.

  • A full experience (e.g., second trip or activity) is dropped.

  • Fewer boats are needed due to fewer clients.

  • A trip was cut short and a partial refund needs to be issued.

Removing a Day, Boat, or Experience

  1. Open the booking and click Edit.

  2. If removing a full experience, click the X next to that experience to delete it.

  3. If dropping a boat, adjust the Persons field to reflect the correct client count—Brindlechute will automatically recalculate boats and pricing.

  4. If changing from multi-day to single-day (or fewer days), edit the Dates for the trip.

  5. Click Save in the top-right corner.

    • You'll be prompted to issue a refund.

  6. Enter the refund amount, or 0 if no refund is needed, and confirm.

Issuing a Partial Refund Without Editing the Booking

If the trip details don't need to change—for example, a trip ran as scheduled but you want to issue a courtesy refund for a shortened experience—you can refund directly without editing:

  1. Open the booking and click Cancel or Refund in the bottom-left corner.

  2. Enter the refund amount and confirm.

Applying a Discount Instead of Editing Dates

For situations like a half-day trip that was booked as a full day, you can apply a discount rather than adjusting dates:

  1. Open the booking and click Edit.

  2. Add a discount (e.g., 50%) to the applicable experience.

  3. Click Save—you'll be prompted to issue a refund for the difference.

Examples

  1. A two-day, two-boat trip drops one day and one boat. The outfitter edits the dates, adjusts the client count, and refunds $400 of $1,200 paid—keeping $800 for the remaining trip.

  2. Due to weather, a full-day float trip runs only a half day. The outfitter applies a 50% discount in Edit Booking, saves, and refunds half the trip cost—or uses Cancel or Refund to issue the amount directly without modifying the booking.
