How Clients Pay with a Gift Card

Clients pay in online booking by selecting Gift Card and entering the 16-digit code. The card's balance must cover the full total, including fees.

Clients can use a gift card to pay for a trip in your online booking. They select Gift Card as the payment method at checkout and enter the card's 16-digit code. The code is in the gift card email and on the gift card page, which has a Copy button for the card number.

How clients pay with a gift card

  1. The client opens your online booking, selects an experience, chooses a date, and sets the number of people.

  2. The client completes any pre-confirmation tasks and signs the required waivers.

  3. Under Select payment method, the client selects Gift Card.

  4. The client enters the 16-digit code in Gift card code.

  5. The client completes the payment. The payment only goes through if the gift card's remaining balance covers the full total, including booking fees. When paying with a gift card, the full amount is charged at checkout, including any balance that would otherwise be due later.

If the gift card balance doesn't cover the total

Clients can't split a payment between a gift card and another payment method in online booking. For example, a $650 gift card can't pay for a $650 trip if booking fees bring the total above $650.

When this happens, the client needs to contact you. You can then apply the gift card's balance to the booking from your dashboard and collect the rest by card, check, or cash. See How to Apply a Gift Card Payment to a Booking.

Good to know

Gift cards pay for booking fees too. The gift card balance covers both the trip price and the booking fees.

Any remaining balance stays on the card. If a booking costs less than the card's balance, the rest can be used on future bookings. Recipients can check their remaining balance anytime on their gift card page, using the View your gift card link in the gift card email. Each booking the card is spent on also appears in the card's Timeline on the gift card's page in your dashboard.

Anyone with the code can use the card. A gift card isn't tied to a client, so the person booking doesn't need to be the recipient named on the card.

Fully spent cards become inactive. When a gift card's balance reaches $0.00, its status changes to Depleted and it moves to the Inactive tab of your gift cards list.

Letting clients pay with a gift card in online booking means gift card recipients can book a trip on their own, without contacting you, as long as the card covers the full total. For how gift cards work end to end, see How Gift Cards Work.
