Top up a client's wallet when the client wants to add credit for future trips, or wants to move some or all of a gift card's value into their wallet. Clients can't top up their own wallet. They ask you by phone or in person, and you add the credit from your dashboard. The client pays for the top-up, and the amount is added to their wallet balance.
How to top up a client's wallet
Click Clients in the left sidebar, then click the client.
Click Edit on the Wallet card at the top of the profile, then click Add credits by charging client. You can also click the Wallet tab, then Edit.
Under Select a client to charge, keep this client, or choose another client if someone else is paying. The credit still goes into this client's wallet.
Under Select payment method, choose how they're paying:
Card, Bank, or one of your offline payment methods, such as Cash. For Card, select one of the client's saved cards or add a new card.
Gift Card — enter the 16-digit Gift card code.
Enter the Credit amount. For a gift card, only this amount comes off the card, and the rest stays on it.
Optionally, enter a Description. It's shown in the wallet's history.
Click Top up.
After you top up the wallet
The amount is added to the client's wallet balance and appears in the timeline on the Wallet tab. The client who paid receives a Wallet Top-Up Receipt email confirming the amount added and how it was paid. If someone else paid, the wallet's owner is also told how much was added.
If a card or bank payment doesn't go through, nothing is charged, and the client receives a Wallet Top-Up Failed email asking them to try again.
If you topped up with a gift card, the gift card's Timeline shows that it was loaded into a wallet, and its remaining balance goes down by the amount you added.
Good to know
Only you can top up a wallet. Clients can't add credit to their own wallet from their invoice or client portal.
A gift card top-up can't be more than the card has left. Brindlechute checks the gift card's balance before using it. If the Credit amount is more than the card's remaining balance, you can't submit the top-up. Check the card's balance under Gift cards in the left sidebar.
Every active offline payment method is listed. Under Select payment method, you see each offline payment method that's turned on in Accepted payments, such as Cash or Check.
Bank accounts must be verified first. A bank account that is still awaiting verification can't be used for a top-up.
Top-up credit can't be cashed out. Once credit is in the wallet, it can only be spent on bookings.
To add credit without the client paying, for example as a goodwill gesture, see How to Issue Wallet Credit. For how the wallet works end to end, see How the Client Wallet Works.
