How do I move my company to a new state (conversion or domestication)?

Options vary by state; sometimes a new entity is needed.

To “move” a company you may:

  • Use domestication/conversion if both states allow it (change home state without starting a brand-new entity), or

  • Keep your original company and register it as a foreign entity in the new state, or

  • Form a new company in the new state and wind down the old one.

The right option depends on states involved and tax/legal considerations. BusinessAnywhere can often help with the filings once you decide on a strategy with your advisor.
