One of the first things you need to do when launching your ambassador program with Buzzbassador is to set your program settings. This includes the settings for your ambassador's discount code, their unique referral codes, and their commission rate.

When an ambassador joins your program, Buzzbassador will automatically generate a referral code and a discount code for them. The referral code will be for ambassadors to share with their friends, family and followers. The discount code will be for ambassadors to use themselves. Additionally, when an ambassador refers a sale with their referral code, they earn a commission.

**You can learn more about the difference between referral codes and discount codes here. You can also learn more about how the referral codes are automatically created here.

How To Configure Your Program Settings

To set the program settings, go to Settings (⚙️) > Program Settings

Then to start editing your program, click the "Edit" button.

Step 1: Set General Program Information

First, you'll want to name your ambassador program, and give it a description if you'd like. This is only visible to you.

Step 2: Set Discount Code Structure

**Keep in mind that your ambassador's discount code, unlike their unique referral codes, is just one code that all ambassadors use.

The purpose of the program discount code is to give your ambassadors a perk of being able to get a discount on their own personal purchases from your store.

Buzzbassador provides a default discount code called "BUZZBASSADOR" that is worth 10% off for your ambassadors' own purchases. To change these code settings, toggle with each of the fields in the "Discount Structure" card. Below is an explanation of each:

Discount type: Can be either Percentage (ex. 10% off) or Fixed (ex. $5 off)

Customer eligibility: Can be either Everyone or Ambassadors only. If set to Everyone, the discount code will be eligible for use by any and all customers on your shop. If set to 'Ambassadors only', the discount code will only be eligible for use by your approved ambassadors. In that case, your ambassadors must use the same email address they used to apply to join your program at your checkout in order for the discount code to work for them.

Discount value: Can be any amount you choose. This is the percentage (or fixed amount) that your program discount code will take off.

Discount code: Can be anything you choose. This is the actual code that will be created in Shopify, which your ambassadors will type in at checkout to get the discount.

Product eligibility: Can be either All, Certain Collections, or Certain Products. This selection determines which product(s) on your store that the discount code can be used for.

Eligible collections/Eligible products: This field will only appear if "Certain Collections" or "Certain Products" is selected for the previous field. This is where you can type in the collections or products you want your discount code to be eligible for.

And that is all you need to do for the discount code settings! Remember, all ambassadors get access to the same discount code. The referral codes, by contrast, are unique to each ambassador.

So on that note, below are the instructions for the referral code settings:

Step 3: Set Referral Code Structure

In order for the app to create these unique referral codes for your ambassadors, you will need to set up the structure that those referral codes will follow. We call this a "price rule".

What is a price rule?

Basically, the Buzzbassador price rule is the "rule" you set for our app to follow when creating your ambassadors' referral and discount codes. These rules tell the app things like what discount amount to take off, what products to apply it to, and more.

Buzzbassador creates a default price rule for you, called "Ambassador Referrals" that is worth 5% off. To customize this and make it your own, just toggle with the settings in the "Referral Structure" section of the page. Below is a breakdown of each of these options:

Discount type: Can be either Percentage (ex. 10% off) or Fixed (ex. $5 off)

Referral rule title: This is where you can set the title of your price rule. This is not the same thing as the names of the actual referral codes. Since your referral codes are unique for each ambassador, they will be created as "sub-codes" under one common price rule title, which is what you are setting here. This title won't be an active code, meaning you can't type it in at the checkout of your store-- in fact, no one else will see it except you. You can make it whatever you want it to be so that you can easily find it among your Shopify discount list, as the unique referral codes will appear within it.

Discount value: Can be any amount you choose. This is the percentage (or fixed amount) that your program discount code will take off.

Start date: This is where you can set the date that your referral codes will become active in your store. If you have a particular launch date for your ambassador program, you could include that date here. Or, you can just set it to the current day so that the codes will be active going forward.

Step 4: Set Commission Structure

For the last step, you will need to customize the commission rate that your ambassadors will earn when they refer sales. To do that, simply toggle with the settings in this "Commission Structure" section. Below is a breakdown of each of the fields you can edit:

Commission type: Can be Percentage (ex. 10% of the sale), Fixed Amount Per Order (ex. $10 per sale), or Fixed Amount Per Item (ex. $2 per sold item).

Commission rate: Can be any number you choose. For example, if you use a Percentage commission type, you could make the rate 10% of the sale.

Include discount in commission calculation: If this switch is turned on on, the commission will be calculated based on the total of the item(s) before the referral code's discount is deducted. So, in other words, turning on this switch will make the commission higher because it will reward the ambassador based on the full amount of the items instead of the discounted amount.

Include taxes in commission calculation: If this switch is turned on, the commission will be calculated including what the customer paid in taxes.

Include shipping charge in commission calculation: If this switch is turned on, commission will be calculated including what the customer paid for shipping.

Restrict commission by shipping destination country: If this switch is turned on, you will be able to restrict the orders that your ambassadors earn commission on based on the shipping destination of the order. For example, if you only want to pay ambassadors commission for US orders, you would turn this switch on, and type "United States" in the "Applicable Shipping Destinations" field.

Decline commissions for ambassadors’ self-placed orders: If this switch is turned on, any time an ambassador uses their own referral code at checkout, the order will not count for commission.

For example, let's say you have an ambassador named Wes, and his referral code is Wes10. Wes may want to try to earn some commission from his own order so that he can get cash back, so he could place an order from your store with his own code.

Some merchants see this as "cheating the system", and don't want to reward their ambassadors for doing this. So, they can turn this setting on, and the app will automatically decline any commissions for orders that are placed by the same ambassador that is linked to the code used. Keep in mind that these commissions can always be recovered, if needed; they just won't be included in your next payout unless you manually include them.
