How to Generate One-Off QR Codes in Stripe for Event Sales

This Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) outlines the steps to create one-off QR codes using Stripe, allowing event attendees to purchase items (like t-shirts or drinks) without needing to become members.

🔑 Key Steps

Step 1: Access Stripe and Select Your Product (0:00)

  • Log in to your Stripe account.

  • Search for the product you want to sell (e.g., t-shirts, drinks).

  • Click the three dots (•••) next to the product to open more options.

Step 2: Create a Payment Link (1:10)

  • Select “Create Payment Link” from the dropdown.

  • On the setup screen, enable “Allow customers to adjust quantity” so attendees can purchase multiple items.

Step 3: Configure Checkout Options (1:34)

  • Do not add additional products to the same link to keep checkout simple and focused.

  • If you're selling multiple items, generate separate QR codes for each product.

Step 4: Set Additional Options (2:02)

  • Choose whether or not to collect tax, depending on your business needs.

  • For a faster checkout, leave address and phone number collection disabled.

Step 5: Customize the Confirmation Message (2:50)

  • Update the post-payment message (e.g., “Thank you for your payment!”).

  • Avoid enabling downloadable invoices to minimize Stripe transaction fees.

Step 6: Generate and Download the QR Code (3:28)

  • Once all settings are confirmed, click “Create Link”.

  • Use the QR code icon to download the QR code image or copy it to your clipboard.

Step 7: Print and Display the QR Code (3:44)

  • Print the QR code and display it clearly at your event—for example, at the front desk—so attendees can easily scan and purchase.

⚠️ Cautionary Notes

  • Ensure the QR code is clearly visible and accessible to all attendees.

  • Double-check product details before generating the link to avoid checkout issues.

✅ Tips for a Smooth Experience

  • Create and print QR codes in advance for each item you plan to sell.

  • Test each QR code before the event to confirm it leads to the correct checkout page.
