Before you start
In this guide, you will be able to:
Add the Chargeback Management App as a team member on your Stripe account, with the correct roles
Create a restricted API key in Stripe with the correct permissions
Connect your Stripe API key inside the Chargeback Management App
You'll need administrator access to your Stripe account so you can invite team members and create API keys, and access to your Chargeback Management App dashboard.
Note: Adding the Chargeback Management App as a team member is required. We may use human input to help analyze and win your disputes, and team access lets our team do this.
Part 1: Add the Chargeback Management App as a team member in Stripe
In this first part, you'll invitethe Chargeback Management App as a team member on your Stripe account and assign the roles we need to help manage your disputes. Start from your normal Stripe dashboard.
Log in to your Stripe Dashboard
Click the Settings wheel at the top right
Go to Team and security
Click Add member
Enter the email hello@disputifier.com and select all three of the following roles:
Dispute Analyst
Refund Analyst
Support Specialist
Click Send invite
Once you've sent the invite, the Chargeback Management App will be listed as a pending team member on your Stripe account with the three roles above, until we accept it.
Part 2: Create a restricted API key in Stripe
In this second part, you'll create a restricted API key in Stripe with write access to the specific permission groups the Chargeback Management App needs. You'll use this key in Part 3 to connect Stripe inside the Chargeback Management App.
In Stripe, click Developers > API keys
Click Create restricted key
On the How will you use this API key? screen, select Providing this key to another website
Click Continue
On the Enter website details screen, fill in the following:
Name: Disputifier
URL: www.disputifier.com
Check the Customize permissions for this key box
Click Continue
Setting Permissions (Important): Leave the default permissions as they are, except for the following five permission groups, which must each be set to Write access:
Core
Connect
Issuing
All webhook
Radar
Click Create key, then copy the key. Stripe only shows the full key once, so copy it now and store it somewhere safe until you paste it into the Chargeback Management App in Part 3
Note: All other permission groups can be left at their Stripe defaults, only the five groups listed above need to be changed to Write access.
Part 3: Connect Stripe inside the Chargeback Management App
In this third part, you'll enter your Stripe API key into the Chargeback Management App to complete the connection.
In your Chargeback Management App dashboard, click the Settings tab in the left sidebar
Select Integrations
Scroll down to Payment Processors
On Stripe, click the Add button
Click Add account
Enter the restricted API key you created in Part 2.
Use the name of your Stripe account
Click Save.
Once you click Save, the Chargeback Management App will confirm the key was accepted and your Stripe account will show as Active in the Integrations section.
Verify your setup before you finish
Run through this checklist to confirm each part of the Stripe integration was completed correctly:
Chargeback Management App is invited as a team member in Stripe with all three roles: Dispute Analyst, Refund Analyst, and Support Specialist (Part 1, Step 5)
The invite was sent to hello@disputifier.com (Part 1, Step 5)
The API key is a restricted key, not your Stripe secret key (Part 2, Step 2)
Write access is set on all five required permission groups: Core, Connect, Issuing, All webhook resources, and Radar (Part 2, Step 8)
The full restricted key was copied from Stripe with no extra spaces or missing characters, and pasted into Chargeback Management App (Part 2, Step 9 and Part 3, Step 6)
The connection shows as active in Chargeback Management App under Settings > Integrations
Common issues and how to fix them
My Stripe invite is stuck on Pending. This means the Chargeback Management App hasn't accepted the invite yet on our end. Contact the Chargeback Management App team through the live chat option in the app and let us know your store or website URL so we can locate and accept the invite.
My API key isn't working or the connection won't save in the Chargeback Management App. This is usually caused by copying the key incorrectly or missing a required permission. Confirm you created a restricted key (not your Stripe secret key), and re-copy the full key from Stripe into the Chargeback Management App, making sure there are no extra spaces or missing characters. If the key still doesn't work, create a new restricted key in Stripe with the same permissions from Part 2 and enter that one instead.
The integration saved, but disputes or transactions aren't coming through. This usually means a permission group is missing Write access. In Stripe, go to Developers > API keys, open your Chargeback Management App key, and confirm that Core, Connect, Issuing, All webhook resources, and Radar all have Write access. If you change any permissions, you'll need to create a new key and update it in the Chargeback Management App, since Stripe doesn't allow editing permissions on an existing key.
If you've checked everything above and the Stripe integration still isn't working, contact the Chargeback Management App team through the live chat option in the app. Include your store or website URL and let us know which step the issue occurs at so we can help.
