Before you start
You'll need:
Access to the Skio merchant dashboard, with permission to create API keys
Access to the chargeback management portal
Onboarding a merchant for a client? If you manage merchants in the admin panel, you can send these steps to the merchant, or complete them yourself if you have access to their Skio and portal accounts.
Note: Please don't share your Skio username and password with us. An API key is the secure way to give us access, and it can be removed at any time.
Why we need access to Skio
Skio is the subscription platform where your customers' recurring orders live. With API access, we can:
Cancel the subscription of any customer who receives a chargeback alert, so they aren't charged again
Blacklist those customers, which helps prevent repeat chargebacks from the same people
Save your team the manual work of finding and canceling each subscription
Without access, subscriptions linked to chargeback alerts stay active, and the customer may be charged again and open another dispute.
Part 1: Create your Skio API key
In this first part, you'll create the API key we use to connect to Skio.
Log in to your Skio merchant dashboard
In the left sidebar, go to API & Integrations > API. Depending on your dashboard layout, this may be under Account > API
Name the API key. Use a name that makes its purpose clear, such as Chargeback Management Integration
Click Generate API Key
Copy the API key and keep it somewhere secure until you add it in Part 2
Part 2: Add Skio in the portal
In this second part, you'll add your Skio API key to the merchant's integrations.
In the chargeback management dashboard, click Settings in the left menu
Select Integrations
Under Subscription Platforms, find Skio and click Add
Paste the API key you copied in Part 1.
Click Save.
Once you click Save, Skio will show as Active in the Integrations section.
Part 3: Turn on subscription cancellations
In this last part, you'll turn on the setting that cancels subscriptions for customers who receive chargeback alerts.
In the chargeback management dashboard, go to Chargeback Alerts
Go to Settings
Turn on Cancel subscription & blacklist customers that receive alerts
Once this setting is on, we'll cancel the Skio subscription and blacklist the customer each time a chargeback alert comes in.
Verify your setup before you finish
Run through this checklist to confirm each part of the Skio integration was completed correctly:
An API key was created in Skio and copied in full (Part 1, Steps 4–5)
Skio was added under Subscription Platforms in Settings > Integrations, with the API key pasted in (Part 2)
Skio shows as added in the Integrations section (Part 2)
Cancel subscription & blacklist customers that receive alerts is turned on in Chargeback Alerts > Settings (Part 3)
Common issues and how to fix them
The API key isn't accepted. The key may have been copied with missing characters or extra spaces. In Skio, generate a new API key, copy it in full, and paste it again in Settings > Integrations.
I can't find where to create an API key in Skio. Look under API & Integrations > API or Account > API. If you don't see either option, your Skio role may not allow you to create API keys. Ask your Skio account administrator to create the key for you.
Subscriptions aren't being canceled for chargeback alerts. Check that Cancel subscription & blacklist customers that receive alerts is turned on in Chargeback Alerts > Settings (Part 3). Then check that Skio still shows as added in Settings > Integrations.
It was working before, but subscriptions aren't being canceled anymore. This usually means the API key was deleted in Skio. Generate a new API key in Skio and add it again in Settings > Integrations, following Parts 1 and 2.
Frequently asked questions
What happens when a customer receives a chargeback alert? Once Skio is connected and the setting is on, we cancel the customer's Skio subscription and add them to a blacklist. This stops future charges and helps prevent repeat chargebacks from the same customer.
Do I need to turn on the setting in Part 3? Yes. Adding the API key connects Skio, but subscriptions are only canceled for chargeback alerts once Cancel subscription & blacklist customers that receive alerts is turned on.
Can access be removed later? Yes. You can delete the API key in your Skio dashboard at any time. After it's removed, we won't be able to cancel subscriptions for customers who receive chargeback alerts.
