I Set Up a PAD Through Chexy. Do I Need to Cancel My Old One?

Updated over 2 weeks ago

Yes.

If you previously had a Pre-Authorized Debit (PAD) set up directly through your chequing account, you must cancel that arrangement.

Chexy does not automatically cancel existing PAD setups.

If you do not cancel the original PAD:

  • You may be charged twice

  • Once through Chexy

  • Once through your bank account

What You Should Do

  1. Cancel your existing PAD with the payee or through your bank

  2. Ensure your payee has your Chexy void cheque details

  3. Confirm they will now pull from Chexy instead of your bank account

Chexy does not communicate with your payee directly.

You are responsible for coordinating the banking update with them.

How Do I Get My Payee’s Contact Details?

When setting up a PAD or recurring payment (such as for a fitness membership), Chexy asks for basic payee details as part of onboarding.

This includes:

  • Email

  • Phone number

  • Address

Why Is This Required?

This information is collected for compliance and security purposes only.

Chexy will:

  • Not contact your payee

  • Not use this information to process your payment

It does not affect how your payment is delivered.

What If I Don’t Have the Information?

That’s completely normal — especially with larger companies.

Here are ways to find what you need:

  • Check a recent bill or agreement

  • Search the company name online

  • Visit the company’s website

If it’s a larger organization:

  • Use their general support email or phone number

  • Use a publicly listed corporate address

  • If needed, use the address of the closest storefront or municipal office

It does not need to be exact — provide your best reasonable estimate.
