No landlord permission or onboarding is required to pay your rent with Chexy, however, the details you will need to share with your landlord depend entirely on which payout method they accept. In some cases, you’ll need to update payment details, while in others, nothing needs to be communicated at all.
What to Tell Your Landlord for Each Payment Method
Pre-Authorized Debit (PAD)
What Your Landlord Needs to Know:
There’s no need to mention Chexy unless you want to. Payments will process just like they did before. The banking details you provide will look like a regular bank account—there’s no Chexy branding, and the void cheque is unmarked.
You WILL need to update your account details from what they currently have on file will to the new Chexy Wallet details.
This can be done either by contacting them directly or by updating the details in your tenant portal (if they use RentCafe, Yardi, Buildium, or Building Stack).
✅ Make sure they’ve updated your payment details correctly, as Chexy doesn’t initiate PAD withdrawals—your landlord does.
Interac e-Transfer
What Your Landlord Needs to Know:
Rent payments will come from notify@payments.interac.ca with the subject line "Chexy has Sent you Money."
Payments are sent at 12 PM EST on rent day, but Interac can take 6–8 hours to deliver the email. If they don’t see it right away, they should check later in the day.
If auto-deposit is enabled, the funds will go directly into their account, and they’ll receive a confirmation email from Interac.
If auto-deposit is NOT enabled, they’ll need to manually deposit the transfer using the security answer you set up.
Transfers expire after 7 days if not accepted, so it’s best to make sure they deposit it right away.
✅ Double-check that you have the correct email address for your landlord before setting this up!
Bill Pay
What Your Landlord Needs to Know:
Nothing at all!
The payment will be sent directly to their registered Bill Pay account, just like if you had sent it through your banking app.
The landlord will match the payment using the account number you provide when setting it up in Chexy.
✅ Just make sure you enter the correct account number so the payment is applied properly.
Final Takeaway
If you’re using PAD, your landlord needs to update your payment details with the new bank info.
If you’re using e-Transfer, they need to check for an email from Interac and know the security answer (if auto-deposit isn’t enabled).
If you’re using Bill Pay, there’s nothing to tell them—as long as the account number is correct, it’ll process like any other rent payment.
