What if I don’t see my payee listed?
To use Bill Pay, your payee must be officially registered with Canadian banks as a recognized payee. This setup is managed entirely on the bank’s end — not by Chexy — and it can sometimes be a lengthy or complex process for businesses to complete.
That’s why Bill Pay is most commonly accepted by large property management companies, utility providers, or other big institutions.
Because this setup happens through the bank, we unfortunately don’t have any way to add or modify payees from our end. If a business isn’t showing up, it likely hasn’t been added to the banking network as a Bill Pay-compatible payee.
If you don't see your Payee listed, please double-check to make sure your payee accepts payment via Bill Pay and if not, feel free to explore our other payment method options (Pre-authorized Debit & Interac e-Transfer).
I confirmed my payee accepts Bill Pay, but I still can't find them on the list
If you've confirmed that your payee accepts Bill Pay but they’re not showing up in our dropdown list, it’s possible they’re listed under a different name.
One of the trickier parts of Bill Pay is that the same company can appear under slightly different names depending on the bank. This can make it hard to find the exact match, and unfortunately, we don’t have any visibility into how payees are listed, so we’re not able to confirm this for you.
The best next step is to reach out directly to your payee and ask if they’re listed under an alternate name. You can also check their website, as many companies have a “how to pay your bill” page with specific instructions.
You’ll want to be sure before proceeding, since selecting the wrong payee could mean your payment gets applied incorrectly or delayed
It’s asking for the wrong number of digits
If the system is asking for more or fewer digits than what you see on your bill, a few things could be going on:
Double-check the payee name you selected. Some large companies use different payee names depending on the type of bill you're paying. For example, Bell Canada has separate listings for internet, mobility, and residential services. learn more here)
Your payee might require a specific format. Some utility companies ask you to combine two numbers from your bill (like a customer number and account number) to create the full account number. You can usually find these instructions on their website or under their "how to pay" section.
Try verifying the payee in a different banking app. Because each bank has a slightly different list, sometimes formatting issues or missing payee entries can pop up unexpectedly. If you're not sure whether what you're seeing is correct, try searching for the same payee in another bank’s Bill Pay system to compare. If it looks different than what you're seeing in Chexy, let us know — that might help us identify if something needs to be fixed on our end.
