What is Bill Pay?

Bill Pay allows you to send payments directly to your landlord through their registered payee account, just like paying a bill through your online banking. Many large landlords, property management companies, and rental portals accept Bill Pay as a preferred rent payment method.

With Chexy, you can pay your rent via Bill Pay while earning rewards on your preferred credit card—your landlord gets paid exactly as they normally would, with no extra steps required on their end.

How Bill Pay Works in Chexy Wallet

1. Setting Up Your Rent Payment

  • Select Bill Pay as Your Payout Method – When setting up your rent payment, choose Bill Pay as your landlord’s preferred payment option.

  • Find Your Landlord in Chexy’s Payee List – Bill Pay can only be used with registered payees, meaning your landlord or property management company must already be set up to receive payments through Bill Pay.

  • Enter Your Account Number – You must enter an account number when setting up the payment. This is the same account number you currently use to issue Bill Pay payments through your online banking app.

  • Confirm Your Payment Details – Ensure your account number is entered correctly, as this is how your landlord will recognize the payment is from you.

💡 Your landlord relies on this account number to match the payment to your rent account. If the wrong number is entered, they may not be able to process your rent correctly.

2. Payment Processing Timeline

  • Three business days before rent is due, Chexy will charge your preferred credit card to ensure the funds settle before the payment is processed.

  • On your rent due date, Chexy sends the Bill Pay payment to your landlord.

  • Processing times can vary depending on the landlord – Some landlords may receive the payment on the same day, while others may take 1–3 business days to process and apply it to your rent account.

💡 If your rent due date falls on a weekend or holiday, the payment will be processed on the next business day. Since all Bill Pay transactions follow standard banking timelines, landlords who accept Bill Pay will already be familiar with these processing times.

3. What Happens After the Payment is Sent?

Your Landlord Receives the Payment Directly in Their Bank Account

  • Unlike other payment methods, your landlord does not receive an email notification when a Bill Pay payment is sent.

  • The payment is deposited directly into their bank account, just like a regular Bill Pay transaction from your online banking.

  • The account number you entered is included with the payment, allowing your landlord to correctly apply it to your rent account.

You Will Receive a Confirmation Email from Chexy

  • Once the Bill Pay payment has been sent, Chexy will email you a confirmation to let you know the payment has been processed. However, since we do not have access to your landlord’s banking information, we are unable to verify when the payment is successfully applied to your account. To confirm receipt, please check with your landlord directly or review your payment status in your tenant portal.

What If My Landlord Can’t Find the Payment?

If your landlord does not see the payment, here are the most common reasons and solutions:

Check the Processing Time – Bill Pay payments can take 1–3 business days to be processed, depending on the landlord’s financial institution.

Verify the Account Number – Since account numbers are required for Bill Pay transactions, ensure you entered the same account number you normally use for Bill Pay in your banking app.

Bill Pay Payments Are Only Processed on Business Days

If your rent due date falls on a weekend or holiday, the payment will be processed on the next business day.

💡 This is a standard banking practice, and landlords who accept Bill Pay will already be familiar with these timelines.

By using Bill Pay with Chexy, you can pay your rent exactly as you would through online banking while earning valuable credit card rewards.
