⚠️ Common error

If you have chosen an SAAQ payee and see a message like:

“The account number does not contain correct prefix.”

…it usually means the payee month doesn’t match your reference number.

For example:

  • Reference number starts with 11 → correct payee: (11) NOV

  • If you chose (10) OCT, you’ll get the “incorrect prefix” error even if the number has 15 digits.

🔢 Part 2: Entering your SAAQ reference number

Your SAAQ payment notice includes a 16-digit reference number called the Numéro de l’avis.

You’ll find it near the top of your SAAQ renewal notice. Enter this number in the Account number field.

✅ What to do

  • Enter the first 15 digits of your reference number in Chexy.

  • Do not include the final digit (the 16th number).

💡 Some banks and systems — including Chexy — only accept 15 digits.

The last digit on your notice is a check digit, so it’s normal to leave it out.

If you enter more than 15 digits, you’ll see an error message asking you to shorten the number.
