Visa required categories on Chexy

What does "Visa Only" mean?

Updated this week

Some payment categories on Chexy must be charged to a Visa card. You will see a blue Visa required badge next to these categories during setup.

Which categories are Visa only?

  • Car & transportation

  • Telecommunications

  • Wellness

Examples include things like transit or parking accounts, mobile phone and internet bills, and gym or fitness memberships. Specific billers may vary by region.

What “Visa only” means

  • If any part of the payment is funded by a card, that card must be Visa.

  • You can still use your Chexy Balance. If your balance covers the full amount, no card charge is needed. If your balance covers part of it, the remainder will be charged to a Visa card you select.

I do not have a Visa on file

You have two options:

  1. Add a Visa card in My Cards → Update card, then return to your payment.

  2. Make this payment directly, outside of Chexy

Fees, rewards, and limits

  • Processing fees and rewards work the same as other card-funded payments.

  • Some billers place rules on which networks they accept. Chexy follows those rules to ensure your payment is processed correctly.

FAQs

Why are only some categories Visa required?

These rules come from billers and payment networks. Using Visa ensures the payment is accepted and settled without issues.

Can I use Mastercard or Amex in these categories?

Not when a card funds the payment. You may still pay entirely with Chexy Balance if it covers the full amount.

How will I know in the app?

Look for the Visa only badge on the category screen. If you try to continue without a Visa card, Chexy will prompt you to add one or use your balance.
