What types of bills can I pay with Chexy?

What’s covered and what’s not

Updated over 2 weeks ago

At Chexy, our mission is to help Canadians pay household bills with their credit card — even in places where cards aren’t traditionally accepted. Whether it’s a one-time expense or a recurring charge, you can use Chexy to cover a wide range of household costs while earning rewards like Aeroplan points along the way.

✅ Bills you can pay

We support a wide range of real-life, everyday expenses. Here’s what you can pay for using Chexy:

  • Rent
Pay your home, apartment, or student residence rent to your landlord or property manager.

  • Utilities
Pay for electricity, water, and waste management services.

  • Insurance
Use Chexy to pay for home, auto, or pet insurance premiums.

  • Childcare & Education
Pay for daycare, tuition, and child support.

  • Income, Property, and Business Taxes
Pay income taxes to the CRA and Revenue Quebec, municipal property taxes, and business taxes.

  • Car & Transportation
Make payments for car leases or other transportation-related bills. Visa only.

  • Telecommunications
Settle your phone, internet, and cable bills easily with your card. Visa only.

  • Wellness
Pay for health and fitness memberships such as gyms or clubs. Visa only.

💳 Why can’t I use Amex for some categories?

Amex has restrictions on setting up certain types of payments. This means categories like transportation, telecommunications, and wellness aren’t currently supported.

If you have an existing payment you previously set up in one of these restricted categories, not to worry — those remain unaffected for the time being and will continue to be processed. If anything changes, we will notify you via email and in your Chexy account. At the moment, this restriction specifically applies to net new payments.

🚫 What we don't support

While Chexy is flexible, there are a few types of payments we do not support across both Visa and Amex:

  • Loan or mortgage payments
At this time, Chexy cannot be used for repaying mortgages, credit cards, personal loans, or other forms of debt.

  • Bank account funding
We don’t support sending money to personal bank accounts, brokerage accounts, or savings accounts. Chexy is designed for bill payments only—not for cash advances or account top-ups.

Why these restrictions?

While we're always working to add new types of payments, these limitations are in place to protect the integrity of the payment networks we partner with.
