Get answers to the most common questions about using Bill Pay with Chexy to pay your rent, bills, and taxes.
What is Bill Pay?
Bill Pay allows you to send payments directly to your payee through their registered account, just like paying through your online banking. With Chexy, you can use Bill Pay to pay your rent, bills, and taxes while earning rewards on your preferred credit card.
Which payees accept Bill Pay?
Bill Pay can only be used with registered payees. This includes:
Landlords and property management companies
Utility providers (hydro, gas, internet, phone)
Insurance companies
Government agencies (CRA, Revenu Québec, municipalities)
Daycares, gyms, and other service providers
If your payee isn't in our system, they may not be set up to accept Bill Pay payments. You can try contacting them to confirm, or use another delivery method like Interac e-Transfer or Pre-Authorized Debit (PAD).
How does Bill Pay work with Chexy?

We charge your credit card Four business days before your payment is due, Chexy charges your credit card to ensure funds are ready.
We send the payment On your due date, Chexy sends the Bill Pay payment through Canada's banking network to your payee.
Your payee receives the payment The payment is deposited directly into their bank account, just like a regular Bill Pay transaction.
When will my credit card be charged?
Your credit card will be charged four business days before your payment is due. This ensures the funds settle before the payment is processed.
When will my payee receive the payment?
Chexy sends the Bill Pay payment on your scheduled due date. However, processing times can vary:
Some payees receive and apply the payment on the same day
Others may take 2–3 weeks to process and apply it to your account
This depends on the payee's internal systems and processing procedures.
💡 Good news: In most cases, once the payment is applied, it'll be backdated and credited as of the date it was originally sent—not the day it was processed.
Will my payee be notified when the payment is sent?
No. Unlike Interac e-Transfer, your payee does not receive an email notification when a Bill Pay payment is sent. The payment is simply deposited into their bank account, and the account number you provided helps them identify and apply it correctly.
What if my payment due date falls on a weekend or holiday?
If your payment due date falls on a weekend or holiday, the payment will be processed on the next business day. This is standard banking practice for all Bill Pay transactions.
What account number should I use?
You must use the same account number you would normally use when making Bill Pay payments through your online banking. This is how your payee identifies and applies your payment correctly.
💡 Important: Double-check your account number before submitting. If the wrong number is entered, your payee may not be able to match the payment to your account.
Can I cancel or edit a Bill Pay payment?
Once a Bill Pay payment has been submitted to Canada's banking network, it cannot be cancelled or recalled.
If you need to make changes, you should:
Contact your payee directly to request a refund or adjustment
Set up a new payment with the correct details for future payments
What if my payee says they haven't received the payment?
If your payee hasn't applied the payment to your account yet, this is usually just a delay in their internal processing. Here's what to do:
1. Wait 2–3 weeks Some payees take longer to process Bill Pay payments, especially larger institutions.
2. Contact your payee Ask to speak with their accounting or payments department and provide these tracking details:
