TL;DR: You need more than GPS tracking. Learn about the ultimate way to ensure your employees are at the job site when clocking in.
Chronotek’s Smart Tracks™ technology is unique to the timekeeping industry. The system reports employees' locations when they clock in and out for work. However, Smart Tracks™ will tag the employee’s time card if they leave the job site while still clocked in. The time cards are marked with the location of any “stops” while on the clock. We also note on the time card if the employee turns off their phone's Locations Services while on the clock.
Requirements for GPS Smart Tracks™
Each job must have an address assigned. Go to List Maintenance > Jobs > click on the job > enter the address on the Location tab > Save.
Employees need the latest Chronotek App version.
Location Services must be enabled on your employees' phones. Set to "Always" (we only get tracks while your employee is clocked in. We do NOT track your employee when off the clock).
An Internet connection is required.
For iPhones: Enable motion and fitness settings. Go to Settings, Privacy, Motion & Fitness, and enable Fitness Tracking. At some point, our app will prompt your employee to allow our app to use the Motion & Fitness feature. Your employee must allow.
For Samsung: Don't run in Power Save mode. That will significantly limit the GPS capabilities. Turn on High Accuracy mode. Go to Settings > Locations > Location Method. Here, find High Accuracy Mode and turn it on.
For Samsung Galaxy S10 this is a suggestion (not a requirement) to optimize GPS performance:
Step 1: Navigate into Settings.
Step 2: Select Biometrics and security.
Step 3: Scroll down to the bottom, then tap Location.
Step 4: Tap Improve accuracy.
Step 5: Slide the toggles next to Bluetooth scanning and Wi-Fi scanning to On.
How to View GPS Smart Tracks™
Go to Dashboards > Workforce Dashboard. The yellow cells indicate a GPS infraction. Click into the cell for the map and details. Don't worry about the green cells. Press the < > arrow to view the past week’s cells.
You can then click on the map to expand the details of the day’s tracks. Each clock event is numbered (1, 2, 3, etc.). Click on each section to fully open the time card details and tracks. These maps can also be viewed under Payroll Functions > Edit Time Cards on each individual time card.
