Record a video using the Claap Chrome Extension

Whether you want to walk someone through a demo, share a quick update, or record a meeting without a bot, the Claap Chrome Extension has you covered. Here's everything you need to know to go from zero to recording in under two minutes.

Haven't installed the extension yet? Start here: Installing the Claap Chrome Extension.

Open the Claap Extension

There are five ways to kick off a recording, use whichever fits your flow:

Step 1: Choose how to open the Extension popup

Use any of the following methods:

  • From the Chrome toolbar : click the Claap icon in your browser bar. The quickest option when you're already in your browser.

  • From the Claap webapp sidebar click the [New recording] button in the lateral bar New recording button icon

  • From the Claap webapp hit the New Recording button in the left sidebar, or just press N on your keyboard from anywhere in the app. No mouse needed.

  • From an integrated website some tools have a Record a video button built right in thanks to Claap's website integrations. Click it and the extension opens automatically.

  • From the Claap Widget if the widget is enabled on a supported site, click Record a video directly from there.

All five methods open the same Extension popup. The method you choose doesn't affect your recording settings.

Setting up your recording

Once the extension popup is open, you've got a handful of options to configure before you hit record. Your settings are saved automatically, so you only need to set things up once.

Select your workspace

In the Extension popup, use the [Workspace] selector to choose which Claap workspace you want to save the recording to. This determines where your claap will appear after saving.

Review Extension preferences (optional)

Click the [⚙] icon in the Extension popup to open the Extension Preferences panel. This panel controls four behavior settings:

Choose what to record

In the Extension popup, select your screen source under [What to record]:

  • Camera Only : records your webcam feed with no screen capture

Note: Camera recording is not available when recording an application other than the Chrome browser.

Select your camera and microphone

Your built-in webcam and mic are selected by default. Switch sources if you're using external hardware, or toggle either off if you don't need them..

Configure optional recording settings

Three additional settings are available in the Extension popup before you record:

  • Add to channel : assign your claap to an existing channel or create a new one. This categorizes the recording in your workspace.

  • Effects : select a camera filter to apply to your webcam feed during recording.

  • Canvas : open a canvas page to add a background and context to your recording before you start:

When your settings are ready, click [Record video]. Your settings are automatically saved for the next recording.
