Worried that a ClassCover Learn course is taking longer than the estimated time? You're not alone – and there's no need to stress.

This article explains why course times are listed as estimates, what happens if you take more or less time, and what it means for claiming your professional development (PD) hours.

Why Is There a Time Estimate?

Every ClassCover Learn course includes an estimated completion time. This gives you an idea of how long the course may take based on the average pace of past users.

But in reality, everyone learns differently – and that’s okay.

Can I Still Claim the Course If It Took Me Longer?

Yes, absolutely.

Your PD hours are based on the course's pre-approved or stated duration – not how long it actually takes you to complete it.

So if a course says it takes 1 hour, that’s what you can claim, even if it takes you more or less time.

💡 Tip: NESA and other accreditation bodies understand that learning speeds vary between individuals.

For Teachers in NSW Accredited at Proficient Level

If your accreditation level is ‘Proficient’ with the NSW Education Standards Authority (NESA) and you take more than 30 minutes longer than the allocated PD hours to complete a course, you can claim the extra time.

How to Claim Additional Time:

  • Add the extra time you spent on the course to your NESA eTAMS account.

  • This additional time is valid even if it exceeds the hours listed on the course or certificate.

By documenting this time, you ensure your PD records accurately reflect the effort and learning invested in the course.

Tips If You’re Taking Longer Than Expected

  • Break the course into smaller chunks across multiple sessions

  • Take notes to help retain information more effectively

  • Use the video pause and replay features as often as needed

  • Take your time – there’s no penalty for going at your own pace

Where to Check Your Course Completion & Certificates

Once a course is complete:

  • You’ll see a “Completed” status in your Learn dashboard

  • A certificate of completion is available to download and use for your records or accreditation submission
