WhatsApp Set-Up Instructions

Steps to configure WhatsApp for Cobrand

Updated this week

This article outlines the steps required to configure WhatsApp in Cobrand. For a general overview, see Intro to WhatsApp Messaging.

Transferring a WhatsApp Sender

If you’re moving a WhatsApp number from another provider, contact that provider first to close the existing WhatsApp sender. If this step is skipped, your WhatsApp account may remain offline until the previous sender is fully deactivated.

Step 1: Mobile Carrier Registration

To send WhatsApp messages, your mobile carrier registration must be approved. You can check the status in Profile Settings → Carrier Registration.

If you have not yet completed this step, follow the instructions in Mobile Carrier Registration before continuing.

Step 2: Create or Connect a WhatsApp Business Profile

Whether you’re connecting an existing WhatsApp Business account or creating a new one, the setup process is completed directly in the Cobrand app. In both cases, Cobrand will link the WhatsApp Business profile to your Cobrand phone number. If you have multiple phone numbers in Cobrand, you’ll be able to select the one you want to use.

To begin, click Authenticate. You’ll be prompted to log in using your Meta Business credentials. You must be a Business Administrator on the Meta account to complete the remaining steps.

After logging in, you’ll be guided through a Meta-hosted workflow where you can either:

  • Create a new WhatsApp Business account, or

  • Connect an existing WhatsApp Business account

When prompted for a verification code, return to the Cobrand app to retrieve it. The code will not appear in the SMS Replies section of Fan Messaging. Once you enter the code, the setup process is complete.

Approval Timeline

If you connected an existing WhatsApp Business account, the connection status will remain Pending for up to 48 hours.

If you created a new WhatsApp Business account, Meta’s review process may take up to two weeks.

Warm-Up Period

All new WhatsApp Business accounts are subject to a warm-up period immediately after creation. During this time, Meta limits sending to 2,000 unique users, with automatic increases as you successfully reach each tier.

For more details, see WhatsApp Warm Up Period to ensure your planned campaign aligns with Meta’s sending limits.
