Overview

The Slider content type allows you to collect a numerical input from users through an interactive slider interface. This content type is perfect for gathering ratings, scales, or any numerical data.

How to use the Slider content type

1. In the Content tab in Cogniss Creator, navigate to the Activity then Topic where you want to add your content block.

2. Click on Create new content block in the top right of the page.

3. In the content block pop up, assign a Data Label. As a reminder, this is an internal identifier.

4. In Type, click on the dropdown menu and select SLIDER.

5. The User facing label is the text that the user will see in your app above the Slider. You should add your question or prompt.

6. The Required option is selected by default meaning that the question must be completed by the user. If you wish to make your question optional simply untick this field.

7. In Upload media you can upload an image to appear with your question and slider.

8. Set your Scale range by entering the minimum and maximum values (e.g., 1 to 100)

9. Define the Step size to control the increments users can select. For example, if using a scale range of 1 to 100 and you set the step size to 10, users will be able to select a score in intervals of 10 (e.g., 10, 20, 30 etc). It's important to note that step size must be a whole number and not include decimal places.

10. Choose your Indicator start position by clicking on the dropdown menu and selecting Left, Centre, or Right.

11. You can tick the Hide user numerical input field if you want to hide the numerical display on the slider from users.

12. Select Customise scale range labels if you want to add custom labels for your scale endpoints and centre label. Simply add your Left range label, Centre range label (optional), and Right range label.

13. If this question is part of a scored survey, you can tick Use reversed score if you need the scoring to be inverted.

14. If you need to add a Local Criteria to your content block, click on Add criteria and select the criteria using the dropdown menu.

15. Click Save Changes at the bottom of the content block pop up.

Once saved, your content block will appear in your Topic. To edit the content block, click on it to open and edit as needed, remembering to save any further changes at the bottom of the page.

πŸ“Œ Unless customised, the labels will default to the min and max scale range numbers.
