Overview

The Text Response content block allows users to provide written responses to questions or prompts displayed within the app. This content type provides users with a designated field in which they can input their responses in the form of free text. This is a useful tool for when you’d like to gather more qualitative data from your users.

There are two different ways that Text Response content can be displayed to users:

  • Default: The default value in a text input field, like 'Enter your email address / Phone number here,' guides users on what to input. It's a suggested placeholder that users can change to their text.

  • Long: A 'long' text input field accommodates larger text entries, ideal for multiple lines or extensive data like paragraphs, comments, or descriptions. These fields can be fixed or expandable, allowing users to input more content.

How to use the Text Response content type

1. In the Content tab in Cogniss Creator, navigate to the Activity then Topic where you want to add your content block.

2. Click on Create new content block in the top right of the page.

3. In the content block pop up, assign a Data Label. As a reminder, this is an internal identifier.

4. In Type, click on the dropdown menu and select TEXT_RESPONSE.

5. The User facing label is the text that the user will see in your app above the Text Response input display. You should add your question or prompt.

6. The Required option is selected by default meaning that the question must be completed by the user. If you wish to make your question optional simply untick this field.

7. In Text input display, select Default or Long from the dropdown menu.

8. If you need to add a Local Criteria to your content block, click on Add criteria and select the criteria using the dropdown menu.

9. Click Save Changes at the bottom of the content block pop up.
