[Canvas] How to Use the CoGrader for Canvas Extension

Step-by-step instructions

Step 1: Install the Extension

  1. Open Google Chrome and go to the Chrome Web Store.

  2. Search for "CoGrader for Canvas".

  3. Click Add to Chrome and confirm the installation.

Step 2: Open an Assignment in Canvas

  1. Log in to Canvas and navigate to your course.

  2. Open the assignment you want to grade.

  3. You'll now see a "Grade with CoGrader" button; this is added by the extension.

Step 3: Send the Assignment to CoGrader

  1. Click "Grade with CoGrader".

  2. Click "Send to CoGrader".

  3. CoGrader will offer to import the current rubric from Canvas. Click to import it.

Step 4: Select Your Rubric and Grade

  1. The assignment will open in CoGrader, ready for grading.

  2. You can stick with the imported Canvas rubric, or select a different rubric from your CoGrader library.

  3. Click Import and Grade to begin AI-powered grading.

Step 5: Review the Results

  1. Once grading is complete, you'll see the student's writing on one side and the AI-generated feedback and scores on the other.

  2. Review the feedback and grades for accuracy.

  3. Adjust the feedback or adjust the grades as needed, just like you would in CoGrader.

  4. Click Approve the feedback when you're satisfied.

Step 6: Send Feedback Back to Canvas

  1. Click the "Send back to Canvas" button.

  2. You'll see a confirmation that the submission was graded.

  3. Click "Insert CoGrader Feedback" to populate the feedback in Canvas.

  4. Click "Submit Comment" in Canvas to finalize.

Step 7: Repeat for Each Student

Move to the next student submission and repeat the process. CoGrader will have already scored the rubric for each graded student, so you can review and send feedback.
