TL;DR: If you’re facing network errors, it might be due to server overload, internet issues, or firewalls. For large files, consider compressing them to avoid timeouts.
Keywords: network errors, troubleshooting
Situation 1: Our Servers Are Down
Sometimes, peak high demand on our servers can cause temporary network errors. If this is the case, simply wait a few minutes and try again.
Situation 2: Verify Your Internet Connection
Ensure your internet connection is stable and active. If you experience issues with your network, this could be causing the error.
Situation 3: Check for Firewalls
You may be behind a firewall (e.g., at your school or district) that blocks the connection to CoGrader. Generally, network errors caused by firewalls happen really fast, almost instantaneously (as soon as you click a button, the error appears). If this happens, consult your IT department to ensure CoGrader access is not restricted.
Situation 4: Handle Timeout Errors
If you receive a network error after a long waiting time (typically over 100 seconds), it could mean the file you uploaded is too large for the AI to handle. This is opposed to a firewall error, that generally happens without any waiting time (read above). In the timeout case, try compressing the file or removing unnecessary content to make it smaller. It must be max 20mb and 8,000 words.
Situation 5: Browser extensions
Some browser extensions might interfere with your network. Try disabling your extensions to see if the connection problem goes away.
Final Note
Fo two of the issues (our server or your internet down), waiting for a few minutes and trying again usually resolves the problem. For firewalls, check with your IT department. For timeouts, adjust the file size before re-uploading. Lastly, try disabling the browser extensions.
Common error codes

502, 503, 504 - Very high likelihood of a timeout.
auth/network-request-failed - Firebase error. Likely a firewall issue.
