If you haven't created a class/assignment:

Step 1: Go to CoGrader and click "Grade +" to create a new class. You will see an option to grade an essay or a quiz, or you can directly click "Grade Essay" or "Grade Quiz" from the homepage.

Step 2: Click "Create Manually".

Step 3: Fill the inputs with the Class Name, the Assignment name, Prompt, Pick a grade level and a rubric.

Step 4: Click "Upload files"

If you have created a class/assignment:

Step 1: Go to your assignment and click "Add submissions".

Step 2: Click on "Upload Files".

Step 3: Upload images, pdf, or other supported file formats with the student submission(s) you want to grade. Ensure all files comply with CoGrader's guidelines. Note: CoGrader permits only one file per submission. If you have multiple parts for an assignment, use this workflow.

How to Copy and Paste Student Work into CoGrader

If you have student responses in another platform and can't download them as a file, you can paste them directly into CoGrader without uploading a file.

You won’t see the “Add manually” option during the initial assignment setup. To copy and paste student work, you first need to create the assignment without submissions.

Step 1: Create the Assignment with No Submissions

  1. Create your class and assignment as usual.

  2. When you reach the submissions step, click Create with no submissions.

This will generate the assignment and take you to the grading dashboard.

Step 2: Add Student Work Manually

  1. Open the assignment.

  2. Click Add Submissions.

  3. Select Add manually.

  4. Enter the Student name.

  5. Copy the student’s response from your LMS, Google Doc, Word file, or other source.

  6. Paste it into the Student answer text box.

  7. Click Submit.

Repeat this process for each student.

Upload Button Greyed Out And Unable to Upload Submissions

That part is usually greyed out because one of the required fields hasn’t been filled in yet. To move forward, make sure you complete all three key fields:

  1. Class name

  2. Assignment name

  3. Prompt

Note: If your school uses Turnitin, it might be faster to import or download submissions from there before uploading to CoGrader. Several teachers mentioned that Turnitin makes it easier to access and download all student files at once.

If you use Microsoft Teams, you may need to download student work individually, which can take more time. In that case, using Turnitin as a source (if available) can save you significant setup time.
