We understand this is a difficult time. Our team is here to help you navigate this process as smoothly as possible.
Who can request access?
If you are the executor of a deceased person's estate, or have been appointed as administrator (if there was no will), you can request access to their Coinstash account to manage and withdraw their digital assets.
Next-of-kin or family members who are not named as executor or administrator are not able to access the account without the appropriate legal documentation.
What you'll need
To process your request, we require three things:
Death Certificate β An official, government-issued death certificate for the account holder. A certified copy is accepted. This must show the full legal name of the deceased.
Grant of Probate or Letters of Administration β Issued by the Supreme Court of the relevant Australian state or territory, this confirms you have legal authority to act as executor. If there was no will, Letters of Administration serve the same purpose.
A verified Coinstash account in your name β You will need your own Coinstash account with completed identity verification (KYC). If you do not have one, you can create one at coinstash.com.au before submitting your request.
If probate has not yet been granted, please come back once that process is complete. We are unable to grant access before probate or letters of administration are in place.
How to submit your documents
Once you have all three items ready, please get in touch with our support team:
Open a chat via the Help button in the Coinstash app or website
Or email us at support@coinstash.com.au
Let us know you are reaching out regarding a deceased estate and attach your documents to the conversation. We will acknowledge your request and guide you through the next steps.
What happens after you submit?
Our team will review your documents and verify the details. This typically takes 2 to 5 business days. We may follow up if we need anything further.
Once everything is verified and approved:
We will link your Coinstash account to the deceased's account
You will be able to view the account balance and initiate withdrawals
All withdrawals are subject to Coinstash's standard verification processes
Frequently asked questions
What if there was no will?
You will need Letters of Administration issued by the Supreme Court rather than a Grant of Probate. The process is otherwise the same.
Can a family member access the account without being the executor?
No. To protect the security of all accounts and comply with our legal obligations, we can only grant access to the legally appointed executor or administrator. This ensures assets are handled in accordance with the account holder's wishes.
How long does the process take?
Document review typically takes 2 to 5 business days once all three items are received. If we need anything further we will contact you promptly.
What happens to the digital assets?
Once access is granted, you can view the balances and withdraw them to an external wallet or convert them to AUD and withdraw to a bank account, depending on the assets held. Our support team can guide you through the process.
