Setting up and verifying an SMSF (Self-Managed Super Fund) account with Coinstash involves several steps and requirements. Before proceeding, it’s crucial to have your SMSF properly established, ensuring compliance with relevant legal and financial regulations.

Phase 1: Basic Account Setup

Step 1: Establishing an SMSF

Before opening an SMSF account with Coinstash, you need to establish your SMSF. This involves a series of steps to ensure it complies with relevant legal and financial regulations. While it is not necessary to consult a lawyer to set up your SMSF, many individuals choose to work with other professionals, such as:

  • Accountants

  • Financial advisers

  • SMSF specialist providers These professionals can guide you through the process and help ensure your SMSF is set up correctly. Regardless of the method chosen, your SMSF must have:

  1. An Australian Business Number (ABN).

  2. A correctly drafted and signed SMSF trust deed.

Step 1: Create Your Account Head to the Coinstash SMSF Account Creation page. Enter your email address and a strong, unique password, then click Create Account.

Step 2: Verify Email & Mobile

  • Email: Enter the 6-digit verification code sent to your inbox.

  • Mobile: Provide your Australian mobile number and enter the SMS code provided to secure your login.

Step 3: Investor Questionnaire Complete the short questionnaire to help us tailor our service to your needs. You can also select "Skip for now" if you’re in a hurry.

Phase 2: SMSF Verification

Step 4: Submit Fund Details From your account dashboard, click Verify SMSF. Fill out the verification form with your fund's details (ABN, Fund Name, etc.). The following details and documents are required:

  • SMSF name and ABN (Australian Business Number).

  • A certified copy of the SMSF trust deed.

  • Trustee details, which differ based on the trustee setup:

    • For corporate trustees: Include the Australian Company Number (ACN) and the details of all directors.

    • For individual trustees: Provide full names and identification details for each trustee.

Step 5: Upload Your Trust Deed Upload a certified and signed copy of your full SMSF Trust Deed. Ensure proper identification details are included based on the trustee structure. For corporate trustees, the Australian Company Number (ACN) is needed along with director details, while for individual trustees, full names and personal IDs are required.

  • Need a copy? Your accountant or the provider who established the fund can provide this.

  • Certification: A Justice of the Peace (JP) can certify your documents for free.

  • Large Files: If your deed is too large to upload or contains multiple files, please email them directly to compliance@coinstash.com.au.

Step 6: Secure Your Account (Recommended) Before trading, we strongly recommend enabling Two-Factor Authentication (2FA). This adds a critical layer of security to your fund's assets. 👉 View our 2FA Setup Guide here
