Description: Attach plans, permits, lab results and other paperwork to a site so it's available to anyone who needs it in the field.
Overview
Site Documents is the filing cabinet for a site. Upload a file, tell ComplianceGo what kind of document it is, and it's grouped with others of the same kind for anyone with access to the site.
Documents are stored against the site, not against an inspection — so they stay available whatever happens to individual inspections.
Before You Begin
You need edit access to the site, or an inspector role on it.
Have the file ready and know which document type it belongs under.
Opening Site Documents
Open the site.
Under Documentation, click Documents.
The Site Documents page opens. Each document type that has files appears as a collapsible section with a count beside it, so you can see at a glance what the site holds.
Types with no files don't appear at all.
Adding a Document
Click + Document. The Add Site Document page opens.
Choose a Document Type. The field starts on Select document type... and is required.
Fill in Description. This is also required, and it's what appears in the list on Site Documents.
Drop the file onto Drop File Here, or click Choose File to pick it from your device.
Click Add.
You'll see Site Document Added and land back on Site Documents with the file filed under its type.
The Document Types
You can file a document under any of these nineteen:
Air Quality · Amendment · Archive · Bmp Specification · Daily Inspection Logs · Dewatering Monthly Report · Documents · Information · Jurisdictional Inspection · Lab Results · Noncompliance Reports · Photo · Plan · Regulations · SPCC · SWMP · SWPPP · Training · Water Sample
⚠️ A permit filed here gets no expiry tracking. Expiration warnings and reminders come from Site Permits; a permit PDF uploaded as a plain document is invisible to them, so nobody is told when it lapses.
If none of the types fits, Documents is the general-purpose one.
Editing or Removing a Document
On Site Documents, expand the type section.
Click the document.
Change its Document Type or Description, then save. You'll see Site Document Saved.
You can't swap the file on an existing document — only its type and description. To replace the file, add a new document and remove the old one.
📝 Inspectors can only edit documents they uploaded themselves. If you hold an inspector role and someone else's document is read-only, that's why. Editors can edit any document on the site.
What Happens Next
The document is available to everyone with access to the site, including in the field.
It appears under its type on Site Documents with the count updated.
It isn't tied to any inspection, so it stays put as inspections come and go.
FAQ
Q: There's no button to add a document.
A: You don't hold edit or inspector rights on the site. Ask an editor on the site to add it.
Q: I click save and nothing happens.
A: Document Type and Description are both required. Fill in both and save again.
Q: I'm told to choose a file.
A: No file was attached. Drop it onto Drop File Here or use Choose File, then save.
Q: Permits and Inspection aren't in the document type list.
A: ComplianceGo fills those types itself, so you can't pick them. Add permits under Site Permits; inspection reports land under Inspection on their own.
Q: A document is read-only for me.
A: You hold an inspector role and someone else uploaded it. Ask an editor on the site to change it.
Q: I need to replace the file on a document.
A: The file itself can't be swapped — only the type and description. Upload the new version as a new document and remove the old one.
Q: I get an error loading a document.
A: The message is Error loading document. Try again later. Reload the page; if it persists, contact support.
Q: A permit isn't triggering expiry reminders.
A: It was uploaded here as a document rather than added as a permit, so the expiry tracking never sees it. Add it under Site Permits with its dates and reminders.
