Create a New Course from Scratch

Written by Support

Introduction

Start from scratch gives you complete control over your course content and structure. No AI tools are used to generate or organise content β€” everything is built manually. This option is best when:

  • You have a clear idea of the course structure and content you want to include

  • You are working from a policy document or existing training materials that need to be included word-for-word

  • You want to ensure no content is summarised, reordered, or omitted

Building a Course From Scratch

1. Navigate to Training > Online Training.

2. Select Add Course > New Course to open the course builder with a blank canvas.

3. In the course builder, you will land on the Start screen. Select the Course title text field and enter a name for your course.

4. Before adding screens, you may want to select a theme that suits your organisation's branding. Select Design in the toolbar at the top of the screen to browse and apply a course theme.

Note: Refer to Branding Your Online Training Courses for more information on themes and brand settings

5. Select Add screen from the left-hand menu to begin building your course.

6. Choose the screen type that best suits your content.

Tip: If you have existing training materials, you can copy and paste content directly into your screens. You can also use screens to storyboard your course, adding placeholder screens for video or other content to be completed later.

7. Once you have finished building and are satisfied with the content, select Publish to make the course available to learners.

Note: Changes saved in the authoring tool are not visible to learners until the course is Published.
