Complete Your KYC Verification in Cope

Why do I need to verify my account?

Before you can receive your first payout through Cope, we need to verify both your identity and your business. This process is known as KYC (Know Your Customer) and is a legal requirement for payment providers worldwide.

Verification helps protect you, your customers, and the payment ecosystem while ensuring payouts can be processed securely and compliantly.

The entire verification process consists of eight steps and can usually be completed within a few minutes.

Overview: How KYC Verification Works

1. Create Your Business

After your first login, you'll be taken to the Getting Started page.

To create your business, enter:

  • Your business name

  • The country where your business is registered

Then click Create Business.

We recommend completing your KYC verification before creating your first product. Your account cannot receive payouts until the verification process has been successfully completed.

2. Select Your Business Type

Next, choose the type of business you operate.

Depending on your country, available options may include:

  • Company

  • Sole Proprietor

  • Freelancer

  • Other country-specific business structures

You will then select the appropriate business structure.

Your selection determines which additional information is required during the verification process.

3. Add Your Business Details

In this step, we'll collect your official business information.

This may include:

  • Legal business name

  • Business registration or tax identification number

  • Business address

  • Industry

  • Customer support email address

  • Website

Please ensure all information matches your official business records.

Once completed, click Continue.

4. Add the Business Representative's Information

KYC regulations require us to verify the individual responsible for the business.

As the business representative, you'll be asked to provide:

  • Your full legal name (exactly as shown on your identification document)

  • Email address

  • Date of birth

  • Residential address

  • Phone number

Depending on your country, additional identification details may be required.

5. Connect Your Bank Account for Payouts

To receive payouts, you'll need to connect a bank account.

Depending on your bank, you can either:

  • Search for and connect your bank directly, or

  • Enter your banking details manually

Once your bank account is connected, continue to the next step.

6. Set Your Public Business Details

These details will be visible to your customers during checkout and may also appear on their bank or credit card statements.

This includes:

  • Public business name

  • Statement descriptor

  • Customer support phone number

  • Customer support email address

Tip: Choose Your Statement Descriptor Carefully

Your statement descriptor is the text customers will see on their bank or credit card statements.

We recommend using a name your customers will immediately recognize and associate with your business or product. This helps reduce customer confusion and potential chargebacks.

7. Review and Submit Your Information

Before submitting, you'll see a complete overview of all the information you've entered.

If anything needs to be updated, simply click Edit next to the relevant section.

Once all required information has been provided, you'll be able to start the final identity verification step.

8. Complete Your Identity Verification Using Your Smartphone

The final step requires a smartphone.

Click Start Verification and a QR code will appear on your screen.

To continue:

  1. Open your smartphone camera.

  2. Scan the QR code.

  3. Follow the instructions on your mobile device.

During the verification process, you'll be asked to:

  • Accept the verification terms

  • Take a selfie

  • Take a photo of your identification document

Depending on your country, accepted documents may include a passport, national ID card, or other government-issued identification.

Once submitted, the verification check is processed automatically.

In most cases, verification is completed within a few seconds.

After successful verification, your business status will be updated to Verified, and your account will be ready to receive payouts.

Requirements for Businesses Outside the United States

Verification requirements vary depending on your country and business structure.

As a result, some fields, documents, or information requests may differ from the examples shown in this article.

Don't worry, Cope automatically displays only the information and documentation required for your specific country and business type.

You're Verified – What's Next?

Once your KYC verification has been successfully completed, you'll be able to:

  • Create products

  • Configure your checkout pages

  • Accept payments

  • Receive payouts

We recommend completing your verification immediately after registration so your account is fully ready to start selling.
