Boo! 👻
Feeling the chill when you see the confusing registration process, along with the dread of the upcoming cloud expenses, which you still don't understand why they're so high? And what about those long loading times that feel almost hypnotic?
Well, don't worry! Here are the new updates from Octo that are sure to help you.
🆕Group By: Tagged

Operational Image
This is a new filter added to our Group By feature in Cost Group that shows the cost breakdown between tagged and untagged resources.
Tagged Resources: These are resources that have been assigned one or more metadata labels (tags). These consist of a key-value pair, where the key is the category and the value is the specific identifier. For example, a tag might have a key of env (environment) and a value of prod (production).
Untagged Resources: These are cloud resources that do not have any tags associated with them. They lack the additional metadata that would otherwise help in identifying, managing, or organizing them.
The primary objective of Group By Tagged is to provide users with a more detailed view of their cloud costs. This feature enables them to easily distinguish between the costs associated with tagged resources and those that are untagged. By identifying untagged resources, users can take the necessary steps to assign appropriate tags, thereby achieving more effective cost management.
Additionally, this new Group By Tagged feature supports multiple vendors, particularly the three major cloud service providers: AWS, GCP, and Azure. This ensures that regardless of the vendor, users can easily identify the costs associated with their resources.
🆕Onboarding (Version 2)
The main reason for changing the onboarding flow in Octo is to enhance the user experience based on user feedback, which we always prioritize. The update aims to make the process more intuitive and user-friendly, reduce friction, and increase the likelihood that new users successfully set up and use Octo.
By addressing user pain points and confusion, we strive to provide a smoother and more efficient experience.
Here are some of the highlights of Octo’s onboarding upgrade:
New dedicated dropdown menus to change the app’s theme and language.
A new profiling page featuring step indicators and an additional dropdown menu to answer the question, "How did you hear about Octo?"
Subscription Page: Has been added to allow users to receive updates from Octo. Social media buttons have also been included to facilitate easier engagement and connection with our community.
A video pop-up titled Welcome to Octo has been added to give users an overview of what Octo is all about. After watching, users can either close the video or click the CONNECT TO CLOUD VENDOR ACCOUNT button to get started.
New Provider Account Page: Allows users to select the desired CSP for registration.
Select Registration Method for AWS: With additional Helper buttons for: video tutorial, view documentation, and connect with support. These are meant to assist users in registering their AWS accounts.
CSP Registration Page: The AWS Registration Page has been updated to include standard basic details to be filled out, with an additional required field for the name and a banner indicator showing whether the provided details have been successfully matched. This update is more of a redesign rather than a change in logic.
New Set-Up API Access Page: Previously the third step, the setup for CUR and S3 Bucket has now been moved to the second step. The format remains largely the same, with the addition of a new Add Sub Account button (formerly called Stackset). Additionally, there is a note in the API setup to inform users that there is a charge each time the API is used.
Minor changes to the Account Listing: The chip design has been updated, and users are now notified via email when data is ready. For Billing Accounts, the details now display the Sub-Accounts. Additionally, if you are using a Billing Account, you have the option to add a sub-account or edit the account name.
A new Updates setting has been added to Preferences, similar to step three of the profiling process. Please note that this feature is currently in its beta version.
🚀Faster Loading Time in the Unit Cost Visualization!
Users can now enjoy a 75% to 80% reduction in loading time for viewing charts in Unit Cost. Previously taking around 48 seconds, the implementation of caching has cut this down to just 10 seconds.
