Updated this week

Latest Updates You Should Know

We're excited to introduce a set of powerful updates aimed at boosting cost transparency, refining metric integrations, and streamlining the user experience in Octo—empowering FinOps teams with deeper insights and more control over cloud spending.

Here’s what’s been added in this release.

🆕Support for Grouping by Charge Type

Sample Image

We’re excited to announce the addition of Charge Type as a supported dimension in our cost grouping capabilities!

You can now group costs by Charge Type, which complements our existing grouping options that include: Service, Account, Region, Vendor, Billing Account, Category, Usage Type, Tagged, and Tags.

This new grouping dimension is particularly helpful for distinguishing costs by their nature — for example, differentiating between usage charges, credits, taxes, or support fees — and aligns closely with the concept of managing costs to gain a more granular view of your cloud spend.

This update gives you more control and clarity in analyzing your cloud expenses—one step closer to smarter, more transparent cost management.

🆕Unit Metrics - Cloudwatch

We’re excited to announce that AWS CloudWatch metrics is now supported as a source for Unit Metrics!

This enhancement allows you to fetch live AWS metric data directly from your linked accounts and use it as a denominator in calculating per-unit costs — enabling a more dynamic and real-time approach to unit economics.

With this integration, you can:

  • Select an AWS account and region relevant to your cost group or browse across all linked accounts.

  • Choose from available namespaces and metric names, such as AWS/EC2 → CPUUtilization, AWS/S3 → NumberOfObjects, and more.

  • (Optionally) apply metric dimensions like InstanceId, QueueName, or LoadBalancerName to scope your metrics to specific resources or tags.

Whether you're calculating cost per request, cost per CPU hour, or cost per queue depth — this integration empowers you to pair real-time usage metrics with your cost group spend to get accurate, actionable Unit Costs.

This is a key step forward in enabling precision FinOps practices inside Octo. Dive into your unit metrics with real usage data and unlock smarter, metrics-driven cloud cost analysis.

🆕AI Cost Filter

We’re introducing a new enhancement to the AI cost feature: Filters & Groupings. This capability allows users to filter and group cost and usage data directly within the visualization interface, enabling more precise and meaningful analysis of AI-related expenses.

The filtering functionality allows users to refine their data view using specific criteria such as services, accounts, usage types, and resource IDs. Meanwhile, groupings let users organize and break down cost and usage data by the same categories, providing a more structured and insightful perspective.

This update gives users greater control over how they explore and interpret their AI cost, helping them make better-informed decisions with ease.

Set the Default Cost Group Creation to be the New UI

The cost group creation process has always been a core part of Octo—without it, Octo wouldn’t exist.

To improve the user experience, we’ve made the New UI the default setup, replacing the old JSON-based approach.

We believe this change will make creating cost groups more efficient, intuitive, and user-friendly for everyone.

🛠️Minor Bug Fixes and Other Enhancements

We have also made some minor bug fixes and improvements to other existing features.

Thank you for your continued support! Your feedback helps us improve. Stay tuned for more exciting updates coming your way soon!
