How to Close Your Crowdfunding Project Early
Thinking about closing your project ahead of schedule? Your options depend on two key factors: your project's current status and the amount of money you've raised.
Let's look at the different scenarios:
Scenario 1: Your Project is Live, But Has No Pledges
If your project is live but hasn't received any pledges yet, you can easily take it offline.
Go to the "Manage" section of your project dashboard and click the "Take Offline" button. This will put your project back into draft mode. You can then continue working on it or relaunch it later.
Scenario 2: Your Project is Live and Has Received Pledges
If your live project has already received pledges, you'll have a few more options in the "Manage" section of your dashboard. Your choices will vary based on your project's status and how much you've raised.
Here are the available options:
Close Unsuccessfully and Refund Supporters
You can choose to close your project and refund all your supporters if your project has not yet received any payouts. If you do this, your project will be marked as unsuccessful, all pledges will be refunded, and you won't be able to receive any more pledges.
Request an Early Payout
For most projects, you can schedule, pause, or start payouts directly from the "Payouts" tab in your project dashboard once you meet the payout criteria. For more detailed information on managing payouts, please refer to our Payout Guide.
If your project is eligible for a payout but you don't see the option in your Payouts tab, please contact our support team for assistance.
Request an Early Close
You can ask for your project to close as soon as possible, rather than waiting for its original end date. To request this option, your project must meet these requirements:
It's been live for at least 7 days.
If your funding type is "All or Nothing," you must have reached 100% of your funding target.
Note: You can switch your project to "Always On" either before or after closing early. This allows you to continue accepting donations even after your initial fundraising period ends. For more details, see our guide explaining the Always On functionality.
Scenario 3: Your Project is "Always On" or a Charity Fundraiser
If your project is already set to "Always On" or it's a "Charity Fundraiser," closing it is simple.
Go to the "Manage" section of your project dashboard and click on "Close project." Once you do this, your project will close and be marked as successful, meaning you will no longer be able to receive donations.
