The study status is the most consequential setting on the Study Settings page. It decides what anyone can do inside the study: whether the builder is open, whether real data can be collected, and whether anything can be changed at all.
What each status allows
Status | What you can do |
Draft | Build your eConsent, eCRF and ePRO forms. Add test subjects and work through the forms as they will: collect test data, sign, exclude a subject. |
Live | Add real subjects and collect real data. The eCRF builder is closed. ePRO forms and settings remain available, independently of the study status. |
Suspended | The eCRF builder reopens and data collection is locked. This is how you change the eCRF mid-study. Go back to Live when the changes are in. |
Ended | Locks the whole database in one click: eCRF, ePRO and eConsent, plus every query, all read-only. Nothing can be modified. |
Archived | Out of the way. The study only appears if you tick Archived in the study list filter. |
Change the status

Open the study.
Go to Study settings.
Click Edit.
Select the status you want.
Click Save.
â ď¸ Warning: going from Draft to Live removes every test subject and all their data. Be certain you are ready before you confirm, because there is no way back to what the test subjects held.
Reopening a study you have ended
Ended is not final. A user can move a study from Ended back to Live, but they have to give a reason, and that reason is recorded in the audit trail where an inspector can read it.
đĄ Tip: write the reason as though somebody outside your team will read it in two years, because they may. "Reopened to correct visit 3 data for subject SC-0012 following monitoring finding" is useful. "Mistake" is not.
Other things on the Settings page
Update the study name, ID and description.
Configure the study start and end dates.
Add or edit study centers.
Adjust visibility and manage user access.
Click Save to apply any change.
